Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

A goldmine of real-world tips and techniques for successful client/server testing! According to a recent study, client/server applications have twice as many defects as do comparable mainframe applications. The unfortunate result? Applications that are riddled with defects, crippled by poor response times, and generally insufficiently able to meet the organization's requirements. The solution? Test early--and often! Nevertheless, today's client/server systems pose a special set of testing challenges--more complex user interfaces, greater use of third-party software, and multiple platform compatibility requirements, to name a few. This unique and much-needed guide clearly considers them all, while providing a proven framework for planning, tracking, and controlling the testing process. Specific coverage is given to client/server applications developed in PowerBuilder and Visual Basic and to making more effective use of such popular GUI-based testing tools as SQA suite, WinRunner, and QA Partner. Testing in a RAD (rapid application development) or JAD (joint application development) environment is also discussed. Dozens of time--and money-saving testing tips and techniques are provided throughout, making this text essential reading for every quality-minded manager, developer, or analyst involved with a client/server system.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good companion if you fall prey to client/server testing, March 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Testing Client/Server Systems (Client/Serving Computing) (Paperback)
This book gives fair treatment to the idosyncratic issues concerning client/server testing with the general testing cycle in perspective. I personally appreciate those chapters specifically addressing each of the easily overlooked and yet important aspects of client/server testing. What's more it's quite easy to understand and well-organized. This helps me further reinforce my hands-on experience of testing. I could not but devour half of the book in one sitting.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best I've seen so far on Client/Server testing, August 8, 1999
This review is from: Testing Client/Server Systems (Client/Serving Computing) (Paperback)
This book is well written and easy to read considering the subject matter. I read it all the way through in 1 week, and I use it OFTEN as a reference. Every serious C/S tester should have a copy on their shelf...my copy seems to spend a lot of time open on my desk!
