Book Description

May 27, 2008 Urban Christian
Three years ago, Shimone Johnson found herself struggling with being pregnant and barely out of high school. Now she is a senior in college and majoring in Music. Her three-year-old daughter, Ebony, is now her life, and she hardly has any free time to do as she pleases, but Shimone wouldn't trade her decision to keep her daughter for anything in the word.

It seems, though, that her boyfriend, Marques Anderson, has. After entering college, Marques slowly, but surely, distances himself from Shimone and their daughter. With Shimone focusing on taking care of Ebony and living her life for Christ, Marques is finding that living the Christian lifestyle is not as easy as it seems. He spends his spare time partying and finding pleasure in the arms of another.

Ronald McAfee and Nevaeh Madison watch as their best friends' lives began to crumble and pray that God can save their relationship, but when thunder clouds began to hover over his own family, ties are broken and Ronald wonders if prayer alone can save them. With his sister, Nicole, feeling depressed and neglected by her family and friends and his mother dealing with an unfaithful husband, Ronald tries his hardest to draw closer to the ones that need him the most.

Nothing in Imani Madison's life could seem to go better than they are now. She has the relationship she's longed for and a loving family who is always there when she needs them to be. When her best friend, Nicole, begins begging for attention in the most harmful ways, Imani can only feel sorry for her, but can't seem to pull herself away from the love of her life in order to be there for her friend. And when certain desires enter Imani's romantic relationship, she has to make the ultimate decision: God's way or her own.

When secrets, lies, and pain began to tests these relationships, will these families be able to grab a hold onto God and allow Him to bring them through the storm?

4.0 out of 5 stars Testing Relationships, July 21, 2008
By
This review is from: Testing Relationships (Urban Christian) (Paperback)
Testing Relationships by Brittany Holmes delves into the lives of a group of friends who have all decided to be saved and live a life for Christ. Mainly, they are practicing abstinence. Holmes shows the struggles that come with this new lifestyle. Shimone Johnson and Marques Anderson have dated since high school. They are now both in college and have a daughter, Ebony, that is three. Will Marques be able to keep his word to Shimone and God? Shimone has to also deal with forgiveness. Someone enters her life that she is not quite sure if she could ever forgive. Shimone's best friend, Neveah, appears to have the perfect relationship with her boyfriend, Ronald. That is until his family is torn apart by betrayal and abuse. Hoping that Ronald does not shut her out, Nevaeh does all she can to stand by her man. Necole, Ronald's sister, and Imani, Neveah's sister, are best friends. They have great examples to look up to but they are still tempted to go against what is right.

Holmes does a great job telling this story from the perspective of young people. The scenarios are very relatable and can happen to anyone. Real situations such as STDs, abuse, suicide, and cheating are all in this story. Readers see how prayer can change things. Holmes is definitely one of the up-and-coming authors in Urban Christian fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Realtionships..............., June 30, 2008
This review is from: Testing Relationships (Urban Christian) (Paperback)
"Testing Relationships"
Current mood: rejected

"Testing Realtionships" by Brittney Holmes is an excllent urban christian novel. Brittney told a great story from a young person's point of view. She tells a story of deep love and betrayl. She showed you how easily it is for someone from all faith levels is tempted and can fall victim to temption. I loved how she used a group of friends and how each friend had their own problems in life, but in the end, all you have if your family and friends. I also loved how she showed that some realtionships can be resolved and others can't. She also showed that even tho' you may be 'saved', but if you did something WRONG pior to to it, you still have to live with the circumstances that follow that. All in all, Brittany did a wonderful job with this novel.

Thanks Brittany! Can't wait to meet you!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great follow up!, July 29, 2009
This review is from: Testing Relationships (Urban Christian) (Paperback)
Ok, first off let me say, that I am a big fan of Kendra Norman Bellemy who also happens to be this auothers mother. Now when I heard, and saw that her daughter Brittany holmes had wrote a book, I knew that the apple couldn't have fallen to far from the tree, and let me tell you people, I was RIGHT! This young lady can lay it on good, and thick for the youth of today. Being young herself when he wrote her first novel {16 years old} helped add to the hipiness, and freahiess of her books. Ms. Homles 1st book centered around 6 high school seniors that go through a series of up's, as well as down, like must often youth does to today. As the story goes on, these 18 year olds go through things that will either make them, or break them, all while shaping who they are, and who they will be. In the follow up to that book these same chacters go through even more. Now in college while two of the them have kids of there own, others have learned to deal with what there lives have become. Some are pleased, and other's are not. As the story unfold's, an secrets are reviled, and they all will learn what it means to trust God through anything, when the relationships they are in are being tested. Weather to trust God to see them through it, or take matters in to there own hands. I now must say though for the fact that I am now also a Big fan of Kendra Norman Bellamy, and Brittany Holmes, the Mother~Daugther duo.
