Easy to use kit comes with a large stone useful for multiple tests. I first used the gold testing acids against known gold karat jewelry and it tested right on. Then I used it on items I was not sure about and the results were clear and easy to read. A magnet would be helpful to determine gold plated items since the kit only tests the surface metal. My only compaint is the silver test which is based on the color of the liquid. It is very hard to determine red, pink or green on a black test stone. A white stone would be better for silver.

I've been using this product to test gold for a couple of years. The shipping was extra quick and the kit is priced cheaper on Amazon than other places. Will be back for more when my supply runs out.

I'm a gemologist and use my acid kits every single day. I needed new acid and saw this on amazon and thought it would be nice to have a larger stone than the one I currently own. While the acid is fine (I tested it on my old stone) the stone they sent me is not! The description says the stone is 4.25" x 2" however they sent me a 6 x 3. My first reaction was, sweet! an even bigger stone! But no. I attempted to test a 14k yellow gold item and the acid not only seeps into the stone after it touches it but it does not dissolve the gold if it's the wrong karat! I placed 18k and 22k on a 14k yellow gold test sample and they were all "lifted" off the stone from the acid touching it but none dissolved. I did the same exact test using the same acid on my old stone...worked just as it should. This stone is crap and I'm pissed that I even wasted my time getting excited about it.

The kit came with everything that was stated in the description, and all solutions were brand new. I tested the accuracy of the different gold solutions by using gold jewelry with a known Karat grade. The solutions ended up being very accurate, and I'd trust the kit fully. The scratching stone was decent sized, and is small enough to be portable. My only gripe was that the directions were a bit vague, and didn't explain anything in detail. I found more detailed instructions via search engine.

Overall, the kit was exactly what I expected. Great product at a very reasonable price. A perfect kit if you're into collecting coins, buying from thrift stores/garage sales, or if you just want to check if that ring you received is actually real gold :)

NOTE: Keep the liquids in a sealed bag or container, and out of reach from children + pets. The chemicals are corrosive and are quite poisonous!

So I picked up one of these kits to test some jewelry that was given to me. I didn't want to pay for an appraisal and risk spending money on being told it was only gold-plated, and I don't trust the cash for gold places one bit.

PROS
- Bottles hadn't leaked in transport
- Stone is large enough to last you a good while
- Solutions will also last you a long time
- Very cheap

CONS
- Difficult to test silver on a dark stone

Overall I spent $10 to find out that the watch parts that I have are indeed solid 22k gold, and my wife's ring is platinum. Definitely recommend this little kit, and it will be coming to MANY a garage sale with me in the future!

I started out needing some Silver Testing Solution, but when I was this deal it was the same as a gift. My 2x2 stone hardly had enough room to test; so I jumped at the chance to get a 4.25"x2 Large stone plus the Gold Testing Solution Kit at such a favorable price!

Thanks

At first I thought I was getting taken, buying what was supposed to be real gold but at first it looked/tested like it was fake gold, not even gold at all but then I tested with real gold tips on the testing needles and they tested fake, no gold content, until I figured out that the stone had some sort of film on the stone that gave me false readings and after I scrubbed it with a degreaser the acids work just fine.

Got this and have not had to use it until now. I went to test and 14K ring and to make sure the acid worked correctly I started with the 22K acid and it dissolved the scratch as expected, next I used the 18K and it did not dissolve the scratch. So I was thinking maybe it was really 18K and not 14K as marked on the ring, so I proceeded to use the 14K acid solution and it dissolved it. Last I used the 10K and it did not dissolve the scratch. So I tried this same process and a few more of my marked ring with the same result. So end result is the 18K and 14k were in the wrong bottles. I would not purchase from this company that can make such amateur mistakes.
