4.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff
Testors always makes great paint, so this is a great set, good price, and the paint sits well on model parts. Only thing I wish is the thinner comes in a bigger bottle.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Paint after mess
Most of the paint was usable however when product arrived all of the gold paint had spilled all over the inside of the package creating a mess. But once that was cleaned up the rest of the paint was good quality paint.

testors always has god paints. there pretty basic colors if you ask me. there good for model planes, cars tanks and belive it or not there good for making custom lego minifigures. it's good for people who are just starting to use model paints. the thinner can be useful at times to. i just wish the bottles were bigger. you can used a dried out thin tipped sharpie for smaller details to. have fun.

This is a great starter set to have or even to use regularly. If you don't paint big models this will last. I paint gundam model kits and so far have done 3 models full painted and have lots of paint left over. The thinner comes in the same size bottle as others but is enough for like i said if you don't do big stuff. the paint brush is basic so i would use it as primary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for painting miniatures., July 31, 2011

I have used Testor's enamel paints, for the past ten years, for painting inscriptions and for painting miniatures. I do my paintings on compact discs and on cassette tapes. For these efforts, I use the smallest brush available from the local art store.

These enamel paints are not eternally durable. What I mean is that once you open the paint bottle, and use it on a few occasions, you will need to use up the entire bottle within a month or so, otherwise the paint that is left will harden on its own. But this is likely an inescapable feature of all enamel paints. On the other hand, the finished product is extremely durable. I have only used these paints to paint on plastic objects (tape cassettes and compact discs). Once painted, my painted writing and painted pictures last forever. The paint does not spontaneously chip off, does not spontaneously peel, and does not rub off. Although the paint that has been left to "dry" for a month can be removed by paint thinner, any effort to use paint thinner to remove thoroughly "dried" Testor's enamel paint will take a few minutes of rubbing with a paper towel with thinner.

Here are some inscriptions that I painted directly on my compact disc:

1. Mozart K513, 2. Schubert Schwager Kronos, 3. Au Privave Sonny Stitt, 4. Ronnettes Be My Baby, 5. Temptations My Girl, 6. Laika and the Cosmonauts.

One might wonder why I put such a hodge-podge of recordings on one disc. The answer is that these are digital recordings of my parakeet chirping to these particular compositions. In other words, after three months of experimentation, I discovered that my parakeet responds most vigorously to these particular compositions. Now regarding the Testor's enamel paints, I painted all of these inscriptions using cursive writing.

For each word, I used multiple layers of paint, for example, a blue undercoat of writing, with a narrower violet top coat of writing. (Of course, you need to wait a couple of days before playing the compact disc in the player, otherwise you will risk ruining the player.)

On my compact discs, as well as on my Maxell UDXLII cassettes, I also frequently paint paisley designs with the Testor's enamel paints. My paisley designs involve multiple layers, often four overlapping layers of enamel paint. I like to build up the layers so they have a 3-dimensional effect to the touch. On one particular composition of bluegrass music, I painted a fiddle. The fiddle was made of multiple layers. With the Testor's enamel paint, it is easy to mix together the colors to get exactly the desired tints and hues. The colors also can be easily used to paint a graded effect, as in the wooden parts of the bluegrass fiddle. Most of my recordings contain music by Brahms, Schumann, Jennifer Higdon, Aaron Kernis, Bartok, and Prokofiev (not parakeet chirps!). One word of caution -- once you open a jar of Testor's enamel paint, and use the jar on three or four occasions, the remaining paint in the jar will harden on its own within a couple of months.

Wal-Mart around here does not stock model supplies or anything to do with the such. All paints are great looking and tough enough to take an accidental drop. Testors is the best name in model building accessories.

These paints were a bit expensive plus the freight. The product is good, though the equivalent could be obtained at a better better price.
