Online content destroyed this book,
By T. Marieta T "tmarietat" (NC, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tethan Battle Adventure #3 (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) (Paperback)
My elementary school boy loved the first few Star Wars "Decide Your Destiny" books; he spent countless hours curled up in his bed reading them over and over. However, this new book in the series is "featuring links to exclusive online content", which is poorly tied into the theme of the book, and has ruined the experience for him completely. Now, as soon as he's settled down and reading, he has to jump up to check a useless video before he can continue on to the next scene - Penguin books has managed to destroy the joy of reading; making kids watch internet videos is a ridiculous concept when trying to get kids to enjoy books.

If I had wanted my child to run to the pc all day long I would have bought him a pc game.....not a book!! This try on marketing was a bad idea! Won't buy any more of these until I can read it myself.

I purchased this at my daughter's urging without reading the reviews and, in retrospect, I really which I had taken the time to learn from others' mistakes. This book is completely worthless on the Kindle (or Kindle app for ipad in my case). The hyperlinks do not work. Even trying to manually go to the referenced page number does not work due to the way Kindle condenses white space on pages that would be left blank in the book. Worst $5 I've even spent and the first time I've been completely dissatisfied with an Amazon purchase.

Unlike the choose your own adventure books, this Decide Your Destiny book is not optimized for the Kindle. When you reach a decision point in the story, there is no hyperlinks to take you to the next choice. Rather, it tells you to turn to "page xxx". Sorry, needs to be fixed.

"Online content" just a gimmick,

This is a decent addition to the Decide Your Destiny series. I've read through a couple of times and there's still parts of the story I haven't discovered yet.The "online content" is a joke. Who wants to sit by a computer while they read? And most of the barely animated scenes sequences are less then a minute. After they play, they tell you to do the same things as the book. Only one of the scenes was an actual game where you could drive a speederbike and even than was not much fun.

What the...,

I agree that the web based material is ridiculous. Why would you want to do this while reading?? More to the point though is that the story(s) is(are) horrible! How could this possibly be considered cannon? The other Decide Your Destiny books can have a descent storylines. What happened here? The main character can go from being captured by slavers, to being turned to the darkside?? Or how about he could be used as the template for force sensitive cyborgs, or how about Count Dooku & Ventress work personally to turn this kid to the darkside, oh and Ventress can turn the clone troopers into some sort of robot, what, what, what?? Oh and to make it all make sense, they throw in that he has a very high midichlorian count.... How did any of this get approved? What is going on here??

I love "Choose Your Destiny" style books. Although I did not run to my computer to check the web content, I did fully enjoy the book all on it's own. Perhaps people had a bad experience when they opted to pause from the reading to go and view the video. BUT knowing that this action is OPTIONAL should help the reader to choose to keep reading, versus stopping to run to their comuters! I give it 4 stars for the distraction. Otherwise it would have rated all 5!
