I have a small 3" goldfish and also a large 8" goldfish in one large tank. I am always struggling to find a food they both can enjoy eating. These crisps seemed perfect so I tried them out only to have to clean my freshly cleaned tank in approximately two days of using them because of the STRONG RED Dye they use to make these flakes a desirable looking color. If tetra would leave the dye out of these crisps they would be fantastic! Until then it back to a small mix of flake food and Koi pellets.

Goldfish Crisps are a lot like the flake food most people are familiar with, but compressed into a harder thicker flake. This type of flake is hard for a smaller fish to eat, so if you have small goldfish in the 1" - 2" range, you probably don't want to buy this product. I'm sure that it will soak, expand, soften and become edible to a smaller fish, but I don't recommend it.

However, if you've had goldfish for a while and they're closer to the 6" range, flake food becomes increasingly wasteful. These compressed flakes are cheaper, less messy, and easier to "measure" proper nutrition -- one crisp being adequate food for 1" of fish. While I don't count out flakes for 10 6" - 8" fish, I developed a good feel for the correct amount of food... which I never really did with normal flake food.

I purchased this because the price was good. I also heard that the "crisps" leave less fish poop. However, I notice that it makes the tank water reddish. I much prefer the water to be clear.

The flakes would be perfect if it wasn't for the RED DYE. It will turn you water red in a week or less guaranteed! You end up having to swap the water out many times until it reaches a more desirable slightly pink, repeat this process weekly. So unless you like swapping your tank water frequently, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

We have a large fish pond in our house - so our fish eat lots of food. We call them the 'ladies'. They come right up and beg when they see you coming.... this product is their 'treat'. I ordered it and it came right on time. I'm glad - I wouldn't want my ladies to be disappointed.

My tank was always a bit dingy when I used flake food. I accidentally bought these "crisps" and my fish loves them, and my tank is sparkling clean!!! I don't obey the "one flake per inch" rule. My fish is 3 inches and he/she eats about 8-10 flakes twice a day. Also, I have a 3 year old who can pinch the perfect amount of these crisps. With flakes, he always pinched too many.

I like to supplement this food everyother day. I believe it helps to keep a cleaner tank and it helps to give a more vibrant color to the fish. These firmly compressed disks make less of a mess when feeding is done. Great food supplement to the regular flakes. Tetra 77181 TetraFin Goldfish Crisps, 7.76-Ounce, 1-Liter

I am a busy mom of 4 so sorry to say I hadn't noticed how red the water had gotten in my 2 feeder fishes tank. The filter was so thick with red goo I'm surprised they weren't dead!!! This is not the way I want my 8yr old babies to die!!! Do not feed your fish this food!!!

Really has made a difference in decreasing the amount of flakes that get caught in the filter. Also easier to controll how much you are feeding your fish.

If I could give this six stars I would. I've had my goldfish for three years, but recently one of them has developed an issue with his swimbladder. I kept feeding him the same food but also changed up giving him some veggies (like peas), and it helped but the problem kept coming back over and over again. It had gotten so bad that he flipped completely upside down a few times, and I had to hand-feed him all the time because he wasn't able to go after the food himself. I decided it was time to buy a different fish food, so that's when I bought the TetraFin Goldfish Crisps. Ever since then, my little guy hasn't had any problems! My guess is just that he is able to digest these better than the food I was previously using. I am just so happy that I don't have to worry about him anymore! Also, I want to add that they both seem to LOVE this food... my two goldfish never seem to be able to agree what kind of food that they like, but they both gobble these up. They're happy, so I'm happy.
