Tetra Whisper Air Pump 40 Gal Tank
For the money this is a good little air pump. Although I do have to say that after around the 4 month mark like everyone else giving a review here it got very noisy. Don't worry there is a fix! Unscrew the 4 Philips head screws under the unit and separate the bottom and the top. You will find a stack of "L" shaped magnets. Move the stack a bit to the right and tighten the nut that holds the "L" shaped magnets in place. Put it back together and ta-da no more noise! The Problem is that the little arm that holds the square shaped magnet is hitting the "L" shaped magnets with every pump. All you have to do is give it some space so it doesn't hit the other stack of magnets. The nut might not have be tight enough when they built it or it rattled loose during normal use allowing the stack of magnets to slip a bit. All in all this is a pretty good pump. Just wish Tetra would pay closer attention to the little things.

waste of money,

I bought one of these for my 29 gallon tank to use with a bubble wand. It was easy to set up and worked fine for two days. On the third day, when I came home from work, the first thing I heard when I walked in the front door was a loud buzzing sound. I followed the buzz to find out that it was the air pump. It wasn't the pump itself vibrating against the shelf it was on, but the motor of the pump. My aquarium is towards the back of the house, so for me to hear it as soon as I walked in tells you it was pretty loud. On top of that, there was only a small amount of air coming out of the bubble wand. I figured I'd just gotten a defective one, so I returned it and got a replacement. It worked great for about a month and a half until it woke me up this morning making the same exact loud buzz that the first one did. Low airflow to the bubble wand as well. Unfortunately, it broke after the store's return period expired, so now I can either deal with the manufacturer (which is always fun) or just count my losses and move on.
Would not recommend to others.

This Aquarium Air Pump is so Quiet I have my 29 gallon aquarium in my big master bedroom. I can only hear the bubbles from the air-stone! I will use Whisper Air Pumps for both of my aquariums, because they are built really good and are Super Quiet! I recommend these aquarium air pump for all Aquarium Owners!

worked well, until it broke,

I've owned this air pump for about 4 months now and tonight it died. It started making a really loud rattle, so I unscrewed its case and found that a cheap piece of plastic was holding the vibration mechanism and this piece had broken and so the vibrator was rattling all over. Basically it's now trash. Pretty pathetic that this thing died so fast, it's clearly built cheaply inside. It's almost as if it's designed to fail. The broken part is very obviously in need of reinforcement.

Was it ever even there?,

Seriousely, if you have an aquarium and you don't want to hear the pump drone on for hours a day lulling you to sleep with it's hypnotising pumping action noise I advise you get this. This baby is far quieter than most of the models I've seen and it does a great job too!

I had this for a few days, it worked great first few days, but it started to get "too" noisy (even though it still works). I opened it and i found a broken piece inside. It still pump air, but it too noisy. I would not recommend this air pump. It happened first few days after i bought, not worth for the $ to ship it back.

great pumps so far !,
This review is from: Tetra 77853 Whisper Air Pump, 40-Gallon (Misc.)
We have a 50g show tank in the livingroom with the 60g pump hooked up to it . it is pumping 3 decorations and a large 12 inch air stone . Had to put in a 4 way valve to slow down the bubbles way to many ! it's been running for about three months now working perfect and very silent so far ,love it ! in our bedroom we have a 40g tank and the 40g pump hooked to it with a lighted air decoration it also works great runs quiet can hear the bubbles and the filter but not the pump . I'm a light sleeper and if I heard the pump it would keep me awake glad it doesn't. We are ready to set up another 40 g tank and will purchase another tetra air pump for it . Very happy with these products . I am very picky but can't complain about anything about these pumps so far .

I've had this pump for a year now running a long bubble wand in my 29 gallon aquarium. Works great and is very, very quite. Highly recommend.
