Editorial Reviews

2013 album from the French turntable group C2C (formerly known as Coups2Cross). C2C is not yet a household name for Electro/Urban music enthusiasts, but the three-letter name is nonetheless legendary in the world of 'turntablism,' a highly technical yet intensely musical discipline, with performers using turntables as a bonafide musical instrument. The four members met in high school during their teenage years, and soon started developing their own unique performing style. Their achievements in the competition circuit come second to none. The quartet has been ranked #1 in the DM0 World Competition four times in a row (2003-2006), thanks to their unique blend of breathtaking technical dexterity and innate musical sensitivity. Audiences are continually astonished by their highly playful, yet incredibly precise and spectacular routines, and the intoxicating jazzy tunes they manage to create through their deceptively simple contraptions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glitching out in all the right ways February 21, 2013

If you like electronic music you HAVE to listen to C2C. Their electro-glitch stylings can't be missed. Reminiscent of the Glitch Mob, this band brings an amazing amount of approachability and musicality to an often castigated genre. What genre exactly, I'm no expert, but definitely out there on the cutting edge: redefining how music is made and defined. This music can be whatever you want it to be: great background, relaxing, dancey, it's everything and anything you make of it. Enjoy (and check out on Spotify if you're having silly baseless doubts).

5.0 out of 5 stars `Lectronic Dubbin' Table Funky Club Rock July 29, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Yes, there is hope for the French after all. If four French guys from Nantes can churn out this kind of fun, interesting, original, funky-@ss gold, without the typical syrupy, gloppy Eurovision/Abba organ-squishy chord progression and underlayered disco beat, then the music world has a future. I'm already hoping these guys stick together enough long enough to spit out at least another album or two.

The Interweb has classified these guys with "turntablism" and "breakbeat." A few clicks later from a reference site, through "musique concrète," I was at Edgard Varèse, then right to Frank Zappa. Six international degrees of musical separation, but only three to FZ in this case.

Sorry, guys, but I just came to this album, a full year after it came out. Go figure. I heard "Down the Road" on Sirius/XM's Faction channel. Right from the first beats and that blues harmonica, linking to the bass drop and that juggled-up sample I had Moby in my head, the snippets he used extensively in 18. But . . . after a few bars I was saying to myself, "Self, maybe Moby would still be around--Eminem really was right!--if he'd tapped into a snappier, funkier groove than the gently looping stuff that was pleasant but ultimately forgettable." This is a very cool tune.

I also dig "Genius," a joyous song about boy and girl in sync, him confidently telling her that all is well and that he is there for her, on top of his game to match her own perfection.

5.0 out of 5 stars So good... April 1, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I love this album. My immediate top 3 were Down the road, Happy and Who are you, but the rest of the album soon grew on me too.
I've been listening to Hocus Pocus for several years and there obviously is some resemblance.
It's just a great album with awesome beats and eclectic influences. Love it!

An amazing album. What more can really be said? Coming from several different creative minds, the songs on here never leave you bored. From Funk to gospel to straight up electronica, if you are a music lover you will not be disappointed.
