Not impressed and neither are my fish.,
This review is from: Tetra Vacation Gel Feeder Block 14 days, 1.06 Ounces (Misc.)
The first (AND LAST!) time I tried this was on a 9 day vacation. Since I hadn't used this particular type before I had a family member who lives next door keep tabs on the fish every day that I was gone and feed them as needed. Good thing because my fish did not like this stuff at all. I researched reviews further and found that a lot of people had the same results. Note: I read the instructions carefully and did in fact remove the food block (more like a puck) from the tin-like tray. On my previous vacation, if I recall correctly, I used the feeder pyramids from API. Those worked great. TIP: Before using any type of vacation feeders, test them out prior to needing them to ensure your fish will be okay. Or have a trusted friend or relative check on your fish to make sure they're doing okay.

Didn't work,

I tried two of these gel feeders in two different tanks when I was gone for a week. When I returned both feeders were untouched. The fish survived but I won't try these again. I'm going back to conventional feeder blocks. Other Tetra products have worked well for me.

"Yeah, I should have known better
To take a chance on ever losing you" (Jim Diamond) This sticky, nasty ugly food I dropped into my tank I came back 10 days later and My house was smelling rank The block was sitting there untouched The fish were glassy eyed They'd rather die than have to eat The food I'd placed inside The moral of this story is Beware this feeding block Use only if you plan to thin Your current fishy stock. In all seriousness, don't use this product. My tropical fish starved themselves to death rather than eat a bite of this nasty-textured gel feeder. I've used the white ones that look like shells and starfish with no problems, so I'm extremely disappointed in this one, and the fish even more so. Amanda Richards, August 21, 2010

Fed the Fish,

This product was a little hard to get out of the container. One of the blocks sort of broke apart. Other than that, it worked well. All of my fish were alive. There was no food left and the water did not cloud.

I got this to feed my fish while I was on vacation. I put it in the night before we left and the next morning all the fish were dead. I've had the fish for 2 years and nothing changed that night except for the feeder. Beware of this product!

This disk dissolved within 24 hours. The water was so dense with the debris from the feeder that you could barely see the fish.
Luckily, we has placed it in the tank a day ahead of our trip to see how it would work. This gave us time to find another brand. I highly recommend you stay away from this.

Left it in the tank for a week and a half and I come back and the tank is cloudy and there were jelly chunks floating all over! I cleaned the tank and my fish refused to eat altogether over the next week. He's looking very sickly and it's heartbreaking =[

These worked well for my two african cichlids. The package does say that it may not last as long for hungry fish. Also these will probably not work as well for picky fish. However, for fish that are already accustomed to Tetra flakes, these will probably be sufficient. The only complaint I had was that my fish knocked it upside down. Once I righted it, it did not last 14 days, but that is okay.

These rot and produce large amountd of ammonia which in turn poisons the tanks inhabitants. I'd never leave these in my tanks while on vacation or any other time again. Extremely BAD product, Tetra. :( I thought you'd at least do a little research on your products before markeing them but obviously did not on these. I think you owe me some fish! Be expecting a letter to your company.

dead fish, cloudy water,

I bought the smaller 5-day blocks. Upon pealing back the foil from the small tin, I found a round puck of gel with bits of food inside. The gel was kind of grey and looked like old bacon grease, as others have mentioned. Yuck! We've got a small 5-gallon tank in the office, which was populated with 3 red minor serpae tetras and 2 tiny tiger barbs. After dropping in 1/4th of the 5-day block to test the weekend prior to Thanksgiving, I returned on Monday to dead fish - after only 2 days. I'm down to two tetras (one of which will die today, as it's swimming on it's side now) and one barb. I've changed half the water and reconditioned it, so hopefully I won't lose any more fish. The fish never ate any of the block. Note: The package clearly states that the product does NOT cloud water. |
