A good variety, plus online play.,

This review is from: Tetris Worlds (Video Game)
Tetris Worlds was released about a year ago on Xbox, and it had several different varitations of Tetris. Besides classic tetris, there was Hotline Tetris (where you had to line up lins of the same color), fusion tetris, sticky tetris, and many others. However, only classic Tetris worth playing. This disc contains all of those, but the real draw here is Xbox live support. It is fast, which adds even more replay value. While not perfect, this disc contains Tetris, the most addictive game, and online play, at a good price. PROS: -Online play -Cheap price -Lots of versions CONS: -Low-res graphics -Not worth buying if you don't have Xbox Live

Great for any tetris lover!,

I've been playing Tetris for over 13 years now.. I'm amazed that I'm still addicted to it after all of these years. This online rendition of Tetris is fun and addictive, and worth the purchase if you're into Tetris. Casual players not looking for an online challenge would be best picking up a used Gameboy rendition. The online play is great with a number of different modes to try. My favorite mirrors the old Gameboy link up version (where achieving double, triple, or tetris moves adds lines to your opponent). Tons of fun, and you'd be surprised how lousy you really are at it :). My only complaints are more annoyances than anything else. The controls could be a little tighter (perhaps it's just the Xbox controller isn't designed for this kind of gameplay). The authors have deviated a bit from standard tetris rules, and allow players to 'bank' an unwanted (or wanted) piece to later. Pieces don't 'lock in' until you're done moving them, taking away a bit of the challenge. Bottom line: If you're a competitive Tetris player (or hope to be) grab it!

Tetris... 15 years after it originally came out,

Tetris Worlds does offer a new spin on the original game of Tetris, such as a story mode. The story is strange if not cheesy, a world made of block like creatures is being threatened, and they must escape their world by opening portals called Tetrions, which of course is why you play Tetris. Tetris has been out since 1989, it's a wholesome puzzle game for everyone, where blocks fall and you must position the blocks into rows. When you make a row of blocks, the blocks fade away if the blocks stack to the top, then you lose. The game has some new features, that make things a little too easy, such as the blocks have a shadow, so you can see where they will end up. You can see the next four blocks that will drop, and you can even throwaway blocks, before they drop. The final "improvement" is that the blocks are not permanently in place until you stop moving them, like when players have to drop a block past an overhang then wedge it in. There is some nice depth and distraction to the game, such as there are different worlds, jungle worlds, ice worlds and so on. When the blocks begin to stack the civilization in the background gets built. The further you go, the further the civilization grows. It's a nice touch, but of course it is really to distract the player! The music is good, but people might not like it, because it is futuristic and spacey, however if you have music on your X-Box you can play songs from that, rather than the Tetris soundtrack. The graphics are nice, but they could be so much better, its sort of like graphics for the 64 bit game consoles, not the super powered X-Box. There is now online play, so you can play against every other Tetris player using X-Box Live on Broadband. You can compete head to head, where when you complete a row, it feeds blocks to your opponent. For online play there are also scoreboards with the top players. Even with the online play, after Tetris has been available for nearly every game system this is nothing that any gamer can get excited about. Fortunately this game now comes as a part of a new X-Box Live bundle for Christmas of 2003.

Attention former Tetris fans:The XBox controls will throw you off! The "standard" square of four buttons has been rotated 45 degrees and is a diamond, so your buttons aren't where you are used to them being. Overall the game is great. I have always loved Tetris, I always will. I enjoy the "interactive" backgrounds. As you progress in levels civilizations rise, jungles grow, and the world develops. I thought it was a great idea. They also turn the "game" of tetris into a life or death struggle. You have to be able to open the "tetrions" so that the creatures can get off their planet. The way you do this is by playing tetris, which is actually the key to opening them. It is a creative idea to add some story theme to Tetris, but the game itself is enough to keep me playing. Also there are six variations on a theme in this version, plus the ability to go onto XBox live. ************************ Final Thoughts: I like Tetris. It is a good challenge anytime. There are some nice features in the XBox version, but I personally didn't need them to buy the game. And remember Tetris fans, you will have to get used to some new controls. I suggest doing so by playing other games first to get used to the controller, then, once you are used to the controller moving on to the challenges of Tetris.

The game I ordered was tetris, instead I got 2 demo games. Neither are full games. What a rip. It was a gift for my daughters birthday. A total waste of money.

The biggest problem with this game is IT DOES NOT SUPPORT HDTV. If you have and use the XBox HDTV pack, then don't waste your money because this game WILL NOT PLAY on the xbox using the HDTV pack. You must use the standard XBox cable.
