5.0 out of 5 stars Now this is great R&B Music
Please don't get me wrong, I love hip-hop music, but not the same thing over and over and over and over again which typifies Black music today. Then comes artists like Tevin Campbell who take a deep breath and follow their gut feelings for a change by doing something different rather then seeking out the Missy Eliotts, Puff Daddys, and Babyfaces to make them...

3.0 out of 5 stars What goes up...
A lot of people turned their backs on Tevin Campbell after that Back To The World album. I never heard it, but that's because the singles weren't that interesting. The singles on Tevin's self-titled album are good, but the rest of the album has too many missteps.

The album starts out fine with songs like "Since I Lost You" and "The Only One For Me". And the best songs...

Please don't get me wrong, I love hip-hop music, but not the same thing over and over and over and over again which typifies Black music today. Then comes artists like Tevin Campbell who take a deep breath and follow their gut feelings for a change by doing something different rather then seeking out the Missy Eliotts, Puff Daddys, and Babyfaces to make them sound like everybody else. Tevin sings the way that he likes to sing. Songs like "Another Day" and "Never Again" bop and swing with simple, yet sufficient music and not with the super-slickness that makes most R&B/hip-hop music nowadays look like plain tasting cake smothered by a pound of tasty icing. This fellow sings(like Luther Vandross does), he does not warble or put on a vocal gymnastic expose(like Sisqo of Dru Hill or Tyrese) to cover up bad song writing. Actually, the list of no-name songwriters and producers deliver a great set for Tevin to beautify. Classy stuff like "Losin' All Control", "For Your Love", "Dandelion", and the lovely "Since I Lost You" express warm, tender, wholesome love, not the permiscuous, booty-call stuff that populates most radio stations. Check this album out, if you like to sit back and listen to some real, traditional Rhythm & Blues. Keep up the good work, Mr. Campbell!

Tevin Campbell, ever since he came out in the early 90's..I found him attrative at first by his cute looks......but then, since I had actually sat down & listen to his music & the words he had said, I feel in love with him & his music...it's like every word in his music I understood....and whenever I had troubles with my relationships.. I go & listen to his music & there would always be a song on his album that knew exactly what I was going through..his music reflects my past relationship....as well as my present relationship. Everytime I listen to Tevin, he always makes me smile with his soothing voice. I've been Tevin's #1 fan ever since he was little T.....and I want to congratulate tevin on his new album it is the best ...he keeps getting better & better everytime.....his music has matured more & so has Tevin, himself......Tevin...keep doin' doin' your thing boy..don't you ever stop making music ya heard :o) .....Tevin ..I love you..from your #1 fan for life..I rate your new CD more than 5 star I rate it 20 stars dammit...DeniLee a.k.a LeeLee

5.0 out of 5 stars A Standing Ovation for Tevin, July 3, 2000
This review is from: Tevin Campbell (Audio CD)
Like Tony from Washington, I cheer him completely on with his review of this CD by Tevin :) This is truly a remarkable CD and you hear the growth and the maturity that Tevin sings from his inner soul. This truly is a CD you must add to your collection, and what stands out for me most in this CD is the orginality of it, (not a bunch of sampling), but music where they really sat down and took time to write. If you are searching for a sound, that is a sound of its own, this is the CD you need to purchase and sit back and enjoy the evening with Tevin.

5.0 out of 5 stars IN A MELLOW WAY..., April 21, 1999

TEVIN CAMPBELL CAME BACK RIGHT THIS TIME,HIS VOICE HAS MATURED INTO A POWERFUL FORCE ON THIS PROJECT.THE PRODUCTION IS CONSISTANT,UNLIKE THE BACK TO THE WORLD PROJECT, WHICH WAS HIS LAST RELEASE. YOU CAN TELL HE HAS BETTER CONTROLWITH HIS VOICE THAN BEFORE. THE PRODUCTION SEEMS LIKE IT IS TAILOR MADE TO HIS VOICE THIS TIME AROUND, SOMEWHAT REMINISCENT OF THE I'M READY CD. WHICH TO ME IS HIS BEST CD BY FAR. DON'T GET ME WRONG THE LATEST CD IS REALLY NICE ALSO. MY FAVORITE TRACKS ARE AS FOLLOWS,FOR YOUR LOVE,ANOTHER WAY,SINCE I LOST YOU,LOSING ALL CONTROL,AND THE BEAUTIFUL POWERFUL BALLAD DON'T THROW YOUR LIFE AWAY. IT REALLY IS A GOOD CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE MOST SLEPT ON ALBUMS OF 99, June 20, 2000

Tevin Campbell came on the scene with a tune from Quincy Jones' Back on The Block the song was Tomorrow(Better you, Better Me) this song open doors for Tevin as he went on to release two strong albums T.E.V.I.N , I'm Ready release a so-so third album Back To The World bounce back in 99 with his finest album of his career.. This was a departure from his previous efforts .. On this one Tevin demostrates maturity not only lyrically, topics but musically he grown.. It's hard to name just one favorite song on this 12 track gem but i have to say one of the best moments is on the ballad The Only One For Me, this is truly a great song other noteworthy songs Another Way, Never Again, For Your Love, Everything You Are .. Everything on here is simply great .. This still gets a lot of play in my CD player. If you dont have this in your collection and you are a true R&B lover add this to your collection PICK IT UP

5.0 out of 5 stars Tevin is not just known for the goofy soundtrack!, January 13, 2007
By
This review is from: Tevin Campbell (Audio CD)
That is a very ridiculous statement. He's had 5 number one singles and neither of them were off the Goofy soundtrack. That person is mistaken.
He was nominated for many grammy's neither had anything to do with the Goofy Soundtrack. This person didn't know about Tevin before goofy... sorry for them!

If Tevin had decided against the braids on his Back to the World album the ladies would have bought it. But the change in his appearance shocked many of his fans. The Wholesome Tevin was gone. His arrest in 2000 for the unthinkable, sealed the deal as far as his career was concerned. If he could go back and change his hairstyle and arrest he would have been a bigger star than Usher.
I liked this album was very much. Tevin's voice matured on this record. I love all the songs on it. But I'm Ready will be his best album until I hear his new material this year. Prayerfully he has gotten his life together and will be an even better artist than he was a decade ago... And boy, was he ever amazing then!!!! And quite handsome too!

This CD marks the sincere effort, skill, and heart of this talented artist. Tevin's soul rages and emanates throughout this entire CD, which incontrovertibly makes this CD one of his best, and a successful evolvation of his musical genius.

Tevin's new album is just fabulous. He shows RnB at its very best. It's so pure! He sings a lot of ballads which are so romantic , they gonna really touch your soul deep within. But there are also some speedy RnB trax on the album to party on a Saturday night with your fellaz! Check it out it's worth the bucks! Great work of an unique artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars HE PUTS HIS FOOT IN THIS ALBUM, August 6, 1999
This review is from: Tevin Campbell (Audio CD)
THIS ALBUM IS THE BOMB ITS TO MATURE FOR THE YOUNG CROWD. SOMETIMES THOUGHOUT THE ALBUM I FEEL TEVIN HOLDING BACK ON THE VOCALS, SING TEVIN, SOMETIMES I HEAR A ADLIB, I WANT HIM TO JUST BELT IT LIKE I KNOW HE CAN. DANDELION IS THE CUT, FOR YOUR LOVE IS THE BOMB THE DUET WITH COKA FROM SWV, HE LET COKO TAKE OVER THE WHOLE SONG, AND THE SONG IS ON HIS ALBUM SHE RUNNING VOCALS AND RUNS ALL OVER HIM BUT THE SONG IS STILL THE BOMB, IF THEY RELEASE IT MAYBE IT WOULD HELP HIS RECORD SALES.
