The version I purchased (used) is only 44 minutes long and is missing both the Screwy Squirrel and Droopy cartoons. I'm desparately seeking Screwy Squirrel, so I guess I'll have to investigate this inconsistency.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tex Avery Goes Nuts In Eight Comedy Classics, April 14, 2000
This review is from: Tex Avery's Screwball Classics 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Screwball Classics Two compiles eight of Tex Avery's MGM cartoons, each one piling on fast cuts, fast animation, and complete lunacy.

Red Hot Riding Hood plays up the sexual undertones common to Avery's cartoons as it lampoons the famed fairy tail.

One Ham's Family is a Christmas tale featuring an obnoxious young pig and a hungry wolf.

Screwball Squirrel stars in Happy Go Nutty as he bewilders a pursuing dog.

Bill Thompson is featured as Big Heel Watha, a fat Indian trying to catch Screwy Squirrel in order to win the hand of the tribe's maiden, Minnie Hotcha.

The Avery chase theme is best shown in an early Droopy cartoon, Northwest Hounded Police.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great laughs, December 22, 2008
This review is from: Tex Avery's Screwball Classics 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video falls six seconds short of just an hour. The eight shorts on this video are great. Red Hot Riding Hood is my favorite. The laughs are great and sometimes hidden. If you like cartoons from that era, then this is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful fun, March 17, 2006
This review is from: Tex Avery's Screwball Classics 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a short tape, just an hour or so, but enjoyable in many ways. Of course, it has a variety of Avery's outrageous characters, including the screwy squirrel and others. It also shows Avery's update of classic fairy tales, with Red Riding Hood appearing as a Las Vegas-style showgirl.

The animation is also an interesting snapshot of the WWII era in which it was made. There are many references to "ration points" and then-current entertainers. It makes for an amusing history lesson, and gives the modern viewer an additional challenge in trying to reconstruct the meaning of the topical jokes.

There are only about eight cartoons here, but they're a worthwhile sampling of the work of Text Avery, and of his time.

Tex Avery ... what a great name ... he is the creator of many many great cartoons & the creator of : Droopy, Wolf, Red, Daffy Duck, the moduler of Bugs Bunny, & director of many Tom & Jerry cartoons. He was considered as the King of cartoons in the 50's ... i didn't forget his cartoons since i was 7 years old. Now i'm 24 years old & still his work stick in my mine that's why i bought this tape.

This tape contain 8 movies : Red Hot Riding Hood ( The Holy wood version ) - One Ham's Family - Happy go Nutty ( starring my best character Sqriwy squirrel ) - Slap happy lion ( the lion & BO mouse ) - Wild and Wolfy ( starrng Droopy, Wolf, & Red ) - Northwest Hounded Police ( droopy chasing wolf ) - Big wheel Watha ( Sqriwy squirrel again ! ) - ventriloquest cat.

Each cartoon promise you 5 to 6 minutes of mad laugh ... i usually watch them when i feel angry or frustrated from daily life events ... a great collection ... Buy it ... it worth the try belive me.
