5.0 out of 5 stars This is a keeper!!!!!, April 9, 2007
This review is from: Texas Brides: To Love Mercy/To Walk Humbly/To Do Justice (Heartsong Novella Collection) (Paperback)
The three stories are great and flow together nicely. The book provides a good synopsis for the stories, so I do not want to spoil the book for new readers. However, the only quibble I have is with the love interest of the third brother. She unexplicably seems to grow a spine within 20 minutes of meeting the hero. This is a little annoying because she was such a doormat when he met her in the first paragraph. Other than that, it was a good story and provides a good conclusion for the book. The stories are like parables and the tests of faith depicted are real and can serve as examples for women and men today.

4.0 out of 5 stars Texas Brides, April 27, 2008

This review is from: Texas Brides: To Love Mercy/To Walk Humbly/To Do Justice (Heartsong Novella Collection) (Paperback)
Texas Brides by Cathy Marie Hake, is a delightful trilogy wrapped into one book. Following the lives of three brothers fresh from Scotland, you watch as they discover love in a new land. Though the stories were predictable, they were enjoyable none the less. I usually enjoy the drama of a good suspense novel, but once in a while I like to read a book that moves at an easy, carefree pace. Again, pulling on my love for the west, Texas Brides made for a delightful escape at the end of the day.

Note: If you decide to pick up Texas Brides, you might enjoy a Bride for a Bit as well. Co-written by Hake, it too is an enjoyable story set in the old west.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very appealing trilogy!, March 29, 2011
This review is from: Texas Brides: To Love Mercy/To Walk Humbly/To Do Justice (Heartsong Novella Collection) (Paperback)
I had never read this author until I happened to pick up a couple of Cathy Hake's books at a thrift store. I really liked her characterizations - all three of her heroines in these three stories were very appealing, and believeable. She does an excellent job of weaving in a spiritual message without being overly cloying or making it seem like it was just inserted into the story - it was the heart of the story.

There were some instances when it was hard to understand what people were saying, perhaps it was just that I wasn't getting the way people talked in the 1800's (and I was a history teacher so I should get it). Sometimes it seemed like there were some awkward transitions that may have been due to bad editing rather than poor writing. But even so I really liked all three stories and would have a hard time picking my favorite. I do appreciate that the author tried to make things appropriate to the time period, too many books written these days try to make people from the 1800's have attitudes and beliefs consistent with today's idea of political correctness.

Thanks to discovering Cathy Marie Hakes this past week I will be ordering more of her books and will be passing them on to others!

This review is from: Texas Brides: To Love Mercy/To Walk Humbly/To Do Justice (Heartsong Novella Collection) (Paperback)
I loved all three stories, especially To Do Justice which was Chris and Kathryn's story!!
I like investigations. all three books kept my intrests and i didn't want to put the book down!!
in this collection truly they saved the best for last. It is important to read To Love Mercy, then To Walk Humbly, then To Do Justice so you won't miss out the details. you don't have to read all of three books but you'll miss the momentum of the books as a series if other wise read. truly great books!!

To Love Mercy - began the brothers life in America and influence in the town.
To Walk Humbly - to contribute to the community when you can.
To Do Justice - held my interest of investigation
>>all speak of comfort, forgiveness, love, family strength and values, and above all
kept God and the bible in their lives!
