Good compilation, not in tune with the movie,
By A. Estes (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Album (Audio CD)
I've always been a firm believer in the old cliche that heavy metal and horror make good bed-fellows. It seems to me that any good horror movie should be accompanied by a good heavy metal soundtrack. And while 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Album' is a solid collection of new metal tunes, it just does not have any connection to the movie. The movie was hands down, brutal. There wasn't any comic relief. It was unrelenting and cruel. And while many critics hated it (Roger Ebert gave it zero stars) and many question the minds behind it, (Michael Bay as producer and a music video veteran as a director) it was a piece of art. This soundtrack seems to be more of an after-thought than anything (heck, it was released three weeks after the movie). None of the music was featured in the movie and none of the songs were written with the movie in mind -- which isn't always a bad thing as long as the songs fit in with the movie -- but these don't. I know when Morgan had the gun in his mouth at the hands of the sheriff or when Andy was on the hook, Hatebreed wasn't the first thing that came to my mind, but I digress. As a stand alone compilation, it fares pretty well. Pantera's "Immortally Insane" makes it's second soundtrack appearance (first surfacing on 'Heavy Metal: 2000'). Fear Factory delivers a new remix of an unreleased song ('Archetype') and plenty of metal's upcoming stars make appearances (Messhugah, Shadows Fall, Lamb of God). Finger Eleven's "Stay In Shadow" seems oddly out of place, or maybe it's just because the track-listing got it wrong. On the back of the case, it has Finger Eleven's and Lamb of God's tracks mixed up (another sign of low quality, aside from the severe lack of movie art-work). So I guess it's a good disc to pick up if you dig the bands on it, but if you try to connect it with the movie, it's useless.

Depends on how you look at it,

Many people are writing poor reviews on this cd. Well, that's because they have been writing the reviews with the movie in mind, so this review is a good 4 star review, being reviewed without the movie in mind. This cd has great bands on it, and no, this cd don't go good with the movie, but it is a great cd for the bands that are on it. Pantera, Hatebreed, Soil, Nothingface, Shadows Fall, Meshuggah, Fear Factory, Morbid Angel, Lamb of God and Sworn Enemy are all really great bands. Static X, Mushroomhead, Seether, 40 Below Summer, Index Case, Finger Eleven (Which is also switched with Lamb of God) and Core-Tez are all good, but I wouldn't have put them on this cd. The only band that I don't like on this is Motogrator, I am sick of Mushroomhead wannabes. If you are looking for a soundtrack that goes with the movie, than I would suggest that you don't buy this, but if you just want it for the music, than by all means, get it, it's a great cd.

Could've Been Better,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Album (Audio CD)
This is a pretty cool soundtrack. What other soundtrack do you know of that has Pantera,Hatebreed,Shadows Fall,Morbid Angel, Fear Factory,& Lamb Of God on it? Three for the bands on it. Though they should've added Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Mayhem, Six Feet Under,White Zombie, and some other cool bands, and take away bands like 40 Below Summer,Static X, & Soil. That's just my oppion
