Editorial Reviews

Originally released in 1976, Guy Clark's sophomore effort for RCA is another fine set of country tunes that run the gamut of emotions from goofy and playful to brutally heartbreaking, sometimes within the same song. Featuring a ridiculously talented set of players that includes Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Gimble, Chip Young, Jerry Jeff Walker and Rodney Crowell, Texas Cookin' is an Outlaw Country classic. While Willie and Waylon were turning the Outlaw into a marketing campaign, Guy Clark really was doing things differently than the Nashville/Vegas crowd, preferring whiskey and a picking session at his Nashville home to the endless drugs and groupies of the road. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic from East Texas, July 2, 2004
This review is from: Texas Cookin (Audio CD)
A Guy Clark classic!! Emmylou leads the list of greats assisting here, and Mr Clark uses the instument that is his voice to great effect. A great collection of songs from a master craftsman. An absolute must for the Guy Clark fan, or a fan of the Texas Singer Songwriters. For the Guy Clark novice, this is as good a place as any to begin. Get aholda this one and enjoy!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Guy Clark, April 12, 2008
This review is from: Texas Cookin (Audio CD)
A college friend and roommate introduced me to this record back in the early 80's. We used to get together and drink jug wine (cheap 1.5 Liter Cribari) while listening to this LP. Some of the songs stuck with me and I ended up buying the CD a few years ago. I keep coming back to it every so often. I especially like, "Broken Hearted People," He's a Black Haired Boy," "It's Good to Love A Lady," and "Anyhow I Love You." Susanna Clark adds tremendous harmony vocals as well on these songs.

For country/folk genre, this music instills meaningful ballads and heartfelt lyrics. It also captures a young man singing songs that he loves. An interesting addition to my CD collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Found these songs to be well written & thought provoking, March 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Texas Cookin (Audio CD)
Clark's use of the written word is virtually unmatched in the country/folk field. He has a way of phrasing common thoughts that seems to throw a new light on even the most trivial and typical thoughts or situations. This tape reveals an insight to life that few have lived full enough lives to hold.
