Editorial Reviews

Included within are some of the most sought after Deep Funk tracks known in the collecting world. There are verifiable funk instrumentals, vocal masterpieces, heavy duty interpolations, and unique covers of classics by The Isley Brothers, James Brown and The Meters. 21 gems in all. Expertly remastered, packaged with extensive liner notes, complete annotation, a historical overview of the Texas and its funk meccas, an introduction by DJ Shadow and containing more photos and memorabilia in it's 24 page booklet than even the most seasoned funk fiend would expect, Texas Funk is a sure shot. Now Again. 2005.

5.0 out of 5 stars A THOUSAND STARS IN THE SKY LIKE THE STARS IN YOUR EYE February 7, 2010
By Syd
I can't rave enough about this series. All the artists for their contribution, along with the Jazz Man/Now Again label should get a Grammy for this. From the superb reproduction of the original mono sound, from the choice of material, from the muted colors of the photos used, to the color of the graphics, the liner notes, everything was done by people with the sharpest of the sharpest artist's eye. It does not matter which you choose, Midwest, Florida, Carolina or Texas, they are all incredible. My hat off to the label, too, for not issuing this in a cheapo box set. Just buy them all. This music has put me in other worlds. The next best ones are Searching For Soul and Getting It Off.

3.0 out of 5 stars bootleg quality funktory January 20, 2012
Verified Purchase
The CD arrived in just a few days! I am very happy with the delivery. About the album, it has a lot of covers with different names. Quality not so great. Peaks out on some speakers and sounds distorted in a bad way. Otherwise, another piece of funk soul history and I am glad it is Texas funk but I know there is more of it and better tracks out there. Just got to dig real deep I guess, (or maybe not SO deep...).
