Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Texas Hold'em Poker - Fundamentals For Winning [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video was not helpfull at all to me. I just started playing hold em a couple of months ago, and have bought other books on it. This video doesn't touch any of the criteria it should. It teaches you how to play, but that's about it. There is no section on hand reading, or any other good things you NEED to know.

Very Very Good,

This is a good review for beginners and for intermediate, Pay close attention to the pot odds section, it is very helpful. For the intermediate players, you will definitley have to fast forward the first 1/3 of the tape because it talks about how the game is played as far as posting and position. I found it very helpful. But it is definitley not for the adavanced player. Good luck

Rounders 101,
By A Customer
This review is from: Texas Hold'em Poker - Fundamentals For Winning [VHS] (VHS Tape)
One of the good things about this video is the selection of characters sitting around the poker table - the huge bearded guy with the sleeveless red t-shirt is particularly priceless. I cannot imagine picking up the game just from watching this tape (even though it promises to show you the basics) - it is just too quick. There's a lot of useful information on which hands to hold and fold, but it goes by so quickly that you couldn't possibly absorb it. Could be a helpful refresher for someone who already knows the game but needs coaching. In the end, this is probably a helpful tape to watch once, but it you won't want to watch it over and over again. It's just too boring.

A CLASSIC and ESSENTIAL TOOL for NEW HOLD'EM PLAYERS,

This review is a response to Bob -- from the producer of this videoThe reason we are still marketing "Texas Hold'em Poker - Fundamentals For Winning" after 10 years is because our customers keep coming -- mainly from word of mouth, not from the dynamic reviews we get on Amazon. And the video is not short -- it is 52 minutes long with plenty of information for the beginning Hold'em player. Not only does it tell you what the "flop" is -- it tells you how to analyze the "flop" and get ideas as to what your opponents may be holding -- and whether you should check, bet, or raise. This is the first tool a beginning Hold'em player should have to fortify their poker skills. The ideal customer is a "home game" player or seven-card stud player who wants to switch to Hold'em. It's also a great way to teach friends and spouses to play hold'em. The fundamentals covered in the video are just that -- fundamentals. Fundamentals need to be learned and understood. Once your skills improve, fundamentals can be used in different ways to win pots. However, beginning players need a concept of fundamentals and a way to practice them. After that -- yes, study, study, study, and read the books that tell you to figure out what your opponent has, what he thinks you have, what he thinks you think he has, and then act according. I chose to produce a video instead of a book because I was trained to be a computer programmer with the help of videos. I'd go to work -- be handed a video -- and then I'd view and study the video until I was able to write programs in specific computer languages. That was how technical subjects were taught in the 80's. You got to see and hear the narrator. You also didn't have to use your imagination as to what a book was saying -- video spoonfed you the information, and video was more explicit and more clear than a written page. Therefore, it was easier to learn from a video. You would just rewind and replay the difficult parts until you understand them. Thank you for your attention. If you have purchased the video and have comments, Fifth Street Video can always be reached by the telephone number on the label.

it was just OK,

kind of vanilla in my opinion. I guess that was to be expected. There is really no way a video could pack us much information into it as a good ole fashioned book

Fundamentals for Winning,

This video would make a great topic for an Oprah show cause it's interesting. I needed to know the fundamentals for winning if I was to go to the local card club and meet Ben Aflek. I was able to pick up enough to play in the Ladies Day tournament. I even won real money!! I have found an entirely new interst. Simple, easy to understand, I could rewind and go thru what was difficult for me to understand. I loved it, learned how to play, and I still have it as a refresher. I've bought a half dozen for Christmas presents that I feel are unique.I recommend this video on a number of different levels and numerous reasons. This video is so much better than a book. I'll replay the video where I won't re-read a book!!
