I saw the previous post regarding a customer who stated he had no problem using this cable with his TI-86. I was hesitant because he didn't state which operating system he was using. I can now confirm that this cable will work with Windows XP. Make sure to use the TI-Connect software and NOT the TI-Graphlink software! VERY IMPORTANT as only the TI-Connect software supports the TI-86 via the USB connection option. Make sure to download the latest version from the Texas Instruments (TI) website. As of 29 January 2007, the latest TI-Connect software version is 1.6. And you must have the Microsoft .NET Framework Windows Updates installed prior to installing the TI-Connect software. Last, but not least make sure you have the calculator turned on before connecting the USB cable to your computer! It took Texas Instruments long enough to add support for the TI-86 to its TI-Connect software! I guess I can't complain as they did finally listen to their customer's complaints. Goodluck with whatever math course you have waiting ahead of you!

Better off with black graph link,
This review is from: Texas Instruments 94327 Ti Graphlink USB (Office Product)
Because it is USB, it does not work eith TI-Graphlink software. Don't get me wrong the Graphlink software isn't great, but it is much more powerful than TI Connect. Plus you can use both TI Connect and TI-Graphlink software with the serial cables. The graph link software is rather clunky, but much more reliable than ti connect.

They say it won't work with the TI-86, but it worked fine for me. Was able to access and download/upload files to my calculator no problemo.

This is a good product, but the info on the page is wrong. It supports most TI Calculators for Mac but only,83,89, and 92 for windows based pc. I have a TI-86 and it will not work on my pc.For TI-86 and 82 you need to order the serial cable instead of the usb.

You're gonna need this, TI-89 owners,

The TI-89 is a great calculator but doesn't have some probability distribution software built in. This includes the binompdf and poissonpdf functions that are readily available on a stock TI-83+. (This applies to the original, black TI-89; not sure if the TI-89 Titanium has these installed standard or not)Serial ports are nonexistant on Macs so you need this if you have one. Some people who wrote early reviews noted that the software didn't completely work with the calculators. With the TI-84 and other new calculators released last year an update of the graph link software was obviously needed, and I am willing to bet my old Mac Plus that it was tweaked to work smoother. To my knowledge this supports every TI graphing calculator. This cable has come down significantly in price over the past four years and is worth buying over the serial one now.

The USB link is easy to use, and is the link to buy if you've got USB ports. While you can't transfer files using TI-GRAPH LINK software and a USB link, you can still use TI-GRAPH LINK for ungrouping calculator data files and viewing or editing BASIC programs on your computer. Then you can transfer files using TI-Connect software, which is more user friendly anyway. Indispensable accessory for your TI Graphing Calculator!

Had purchased a TI-84 Plus graphic calculator for my grand daughter when she started college, unaware that not everything was in the package. Found this item on Amazon at about half the price with excellent delivery time. Works great, website with TI is outstanding. Well worth the effort to find it on Amazon.com

the silverlink cable allows the ti89 to be used as a satellite computer. i commute to and from school, and can use the time to brainstorm for a paper, lab report, or spreadsheet, and upload the files for expansion in word or excel. while the graphlink program doesn't work directly with the silverlink cable, programs can still be written or edited in graphlink, making the process much more comfortable, and uploaded to the calculator manually.i will also add, that in-depth knowledge of ti89 functions is worth acquiring. sit with the manual and play with it! |
