Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Sometimes neither an adding machine nor a calculator is enough. With the Texas Instruments office calculator you get both, plus state-of-the-art special features like a tax switch and keys, a GPM (gross profit margin) key, an automatic constant, and an independent add register. Great for a small or home office, it's a topnotch tool to help you keep your finances straight.

The TI5045SVC's keyboard has oversized keys for greater accuracy and to prevent fatigue (they're especially nice for those who do a lot of keypad work). TI designers know that people usually have their fingers flying over the keys, so they've added a two-key rollover so that you can press a second key before releasing the first; they've also added an eight-level keyboard buffer so that you can make up to eight additional entries while the printer is operating. A built-in metal paper arm holds your paper (one roll included) above the display.

Four switches on the upper keyboard allow you to move between functions. The Power switch allows you to choose between using the tape or just the display, the item counter, and the independent add register. With the Round switch, choose whether or not to round up or down and set the Decimal switch accordingly. The Tax switch allows you to enter the rate used in tax calculations. This is a boon for small businesses, retail, or traveling sales (though you do need to plug the desktop calculator in).To keep a hard copy of your transactions, set the Non-Add key so the calculator can assign a reference number or a date on the left side of the tape. If you need to perform another calculation while in the middle of a current one, just store it in memory until the second function is finished. Any values are saved until you clear them (even when you accidentally unplug the calculator). --Dana Van Nest

3.0 out of 5 stars TI5045SVC pros & cons, April 17, 2002

This review is from: Texas Instruments TI5045 SVC Desktop Calculator (Office Product)
This is an excellent calculator for business purposes, for speed, and tax figuring and it's just the right desk size.
It is fast enough to keep up with my entries, and the auto tax computation feature really makes business use a breeze. The display is large enough for most folks even those with less than perfect vision. The print is clear, and the two color printing makes subtracted entries easy to identify. It also makes negative totals stand out!

As long as the ink rollers last, you should never have a problem with this product. Once you are forced to change ink rollers, you'll discover the need for tweezers, or forceps because these rollers are so small that a person with normal sized fingers cannot perform this procedure without tools!!!
Also the rollers must be inserted behind a tiny spring, and proper position is imperative. If you dislodge the spring, you'll work for half an hour to get it back in the right place. Pay close attention to the position of the tiny spring before and during roller replacement, so that in the event you knock it loose, you'll know where to reposition it. Be sure you have tweezers or forceps ready at hand to change these ink rollers.

If you can keep the printer inked, you'll remain a happy camper with this product.
