Hoping for a Christmas Miracle,

DiAnn Mills' A TEXAS LEGACY CHRISTMAS
Reviewed by Marion Kelley Bullock Zack Kahler is ready to leave New York and return to his hometown, Kahlerville, Texas, where he has bought the local newspaper. He slips on the ice, and six-year-old twin waifs swoop down and help him up. In the process, they relieve him of his wallet. He goes to the orphanage where they live, to leave money for their care, and ends up adopting them. So Zack, along with Curly and his sister, Charley, arrive in Kahlerville by rail. They settle in the local boarding house, where Zack stays busy taking over the newspaper and keeping the twins out of trouble. Zack renews his friendship with Chloe Weaver, who works at the boarding house. Back in their school days, when she often had no food, Zack brought her a sandwich for lunch every day. This she remembers, as well as her feelings for him. She has loved him ever since. The children are endearing and they interact with Zack and Chloe, as well as others, including Mrs. Scott, schoolteacher, and Simeon, the cook. The owner of the boarding house plies Chloe with unwanted attention, and she begins to wonder if romance with him is all she can expect. But she hopes for the love of her heart. A Christmas miracle is what they all need. And that's what this story is all about.

WARNING - SPOILERS BELOW!!!
This was an excellent book! It was really hard for me to get into it because the thought of a man like Zack adopting a little boy and girl from the streets of New York really didn't ring as something that would have really happened, but by the end of the story, I was absolutely happy with the way everything turned out! Of course, without reading the book we knew they live happily ever after - the always do, but letting the twins propose to her was simply DARLING!!! I'm keeping this book, because like my "Love Comes Softly" books, I'm sure I'll want to read it again. Next time, I'll have more appreciation for the story! And I didn't realize this was the forth in a series, so now I must go back and read the first three. I hope it tells the story of Zack and the tornado!!!

A TEXAS LEGACY CHRISTMAS is the final book in the Texas Legacy Series. Zack Kahler is now grown and living in New York but looking forward to moving back to Kahlerville and running the town newspaper. Before he leaves New York he has a chance encounter with a set of 6 year-old, pick-pocketing twins. When he learns the twins are orphans he decides to make a donation to the orphanage before he leaves town. In a twist of fate and a matter of 24 hours he finds himself adopting the twins, Curly and his sister Charley. Wondering what he's gotten himself into, he tries to figure out how to balance fatherhood and running a newspaper. Checking in at the boardinghouse, Zack is surprised to see Chloe Weaver working the front desk, an outcast in school because of her mixed parentage, Zack had befriended her, bringing her a sandwich each day so that she didn't have to go without lunch.
Chloe has led a difficult life. Losing her mother at an early age, she lived with her abusive father until he died in the house fire that took her home. When she lands a job at the boardinghouse, she is thankful to have a place to stay, and an income. Though Mr. Barton, the boardinghouse owner vows to win her heart, she knows it is not his to win. Her feelings for Zack, her childhood hero are nothing short of love, but she brushes them aside as foolishness. Chloe helps Zack with the twins and the adjustment that comes with having kids. Not wanting to complicate his life further, Zack tries to ignore his growing feelings for Chloe, but it is no use. The kids love her and so does he. I enjoyed A TEXAS LEGACY CHRISTMAS. It was fun to catch up with past characters like Morgan and Casey, Jenny and Grant, and Bonnie and Travis. Though the end was predictable, I still enjoyed the easy pace and enjoyable story DiAnn Mills knitted together.

Christmas in Kahlerville Endearing, Mills Succeeds Again,
This review is from: A Texas Legacy Christmas (Texas Legacy Series #4) (Paperback)
This "bonus" installment of Mills' Texas Legacy series provides everything a sweet, driving romance needs. The holiday theme simply adds a bonus with the tree trimmings and holiday cheer! A grown-up Zach becoming a father of orphans created a unique situation, and Chloe's sweet beauty provides the perfect foil for him and their built-in family.
Excited to read about how the troublesome Zach grew up and the type of woman he would find, I found my initial reaction to the characters was not as joy-filled as I'd hoped. Where was the Zach I knew from Lightning and Lace? Who was this girl he supposedly fed in schoolhouse days? But once I allowed the book to write its own story rather than a continuance of books gone by, I highly enjoyed Mills' latest installment to the series. Her characters are compelling and endearing, and Kahlerville is still wonderful. Zach and Chloe need to be together, and so do Simeon and Miss Scott, of course. Though I believe the first three in the series provide more excitement and "meat" to keep me reading, the sweet warmth of this "dessert" book was welcome to get me into the loving cheer of the holidays.

Zack Kahler is tired of New York and looked forward to returning to his hometown, Kahlerville, Texas, where he has bought a newspaper. When he slipped on the icy street, two waifs' picked his pocket under the guise of offering to help him up. His big heart was touched when he discovered the twins had lost both their parents. Before returning to Texas, he stopped at the orphanage to check on them, only to end up adopting them. On the train ride to Texas, he discovered that what he thought was two boys were actually twin brother and sister. Curly and Charlie were six-years old and a handful. When they arrived at a boarding house, he rekindles his friendship with Chloe Weaver. He had not intended to fall in love but could not help himself. Chloe took a job at the local boarding house. The job was to watch the front desk, keep the books, clean, and help wherever she was needed. She had no family and knew she must fend for herself. Many nights she had slept outside and gone hungry. She remembered Zack from school. He was eight-years older than she was and always treated her well. Many of the other kids made fun of her, but Zack saw that she was hungry and brought her food each day. When he walked back into her life, she knew she had loved him since she was a child. "A Texas Legacy Christmas," by DiAnn Mills, is Christian Romance at its finest. Ms. Mills is an exceptional writer. The plot of this story flows smoothly. I could not put it down and read it in one sitting. The characters were so well-developed that they jumped off the page and came alive in front of me. Zack and Chloe's romance is endearing. Ms. Scott and Simeon brought a smile to my face more than once. How could anyone not love Curly and Charlie? The supporting characters are all intriguing. I wonder if another story with Eli as a main character might not be in the works. Ms. Mills uses Christian values and tells a story of true romance. I highly recommend "A Texas Legacy Christmas" to fans of Christian romance. Received book free of charge |
