I absolutely loved this book. I am a Texas woman and am proud of the Texas heroin Ms. Rice created. She doesn't need her hero to take care of her; she can definitely handle everything herself! However, she values him and the strength he provides. Cade is such a great hero! He is half Apache and half Mexican; not a great combination to be in 1835. However, he still goes after what he wants and earns respect in the process. This is a story that will definitely be put in my "reread" pile!

I love steamy romances. I read the reviews before downloading, and I understand that some people might not enjoy this book, but I thought it was really good. The sex scenes are well-written, but graphic, so if you are looking for something more along the lines of Amish/Christian Romance genre, this isn't it.

Anyway, the book has no serious editorial or editing issues, which are a major pet peeve of mine. Try it-- I got it for free as a download and read it in one afternoon.

I'm shocked by the lead negative review. While I agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinion/preferance, I'm having a hard time understanding how the scene the negative reviewer mentions can be perceived as rape. Without delving into particulars, I can say with 100% certainty that I certainly didn't read it that way at all!

This book is one of the first freebies I've gotten that I feel would truly be worth a paid price. The story is lengthy and the story is detailed and deep. The cast of characters is well developed and the issues they face are, at least compared to many of the books I've read, unique.

I would highly recommend this book to any fan of the romance genre. It is well written and truly a charm!

I read the lead negative review, and although I absolutely agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I'm not sure if the reviewer and I are living in the same universe. If I hadn't read the review, I never would have thought "the lead character is a rapist"-- that's not how I read that sex scene at all. But I guess every reader had the right to their own opinion. I just wish that the reviewer hadn't posted that-- it really does act like a spoiler, and kind of ruined the scene for me.

That being said, I thought this book was well paced and a fun read. The sex scenes are steamy without being overdone.

This ebook is a diamond. A long complex story with wonderful characters. It is a rich love story which takes place in rough, crude frontier times which required strong women and men. Lilly and Cade weave a wonderful tale as due all of the other characters. I was spell bound and I could not believe this ebook was free. I will purchase other stories by this excellent author.

Enjoy!

Consider this a warning, not a spoiler:

I liked this book right up to 27% of the way in, when the "hero" declares the heroine to be his wife without asking her opinion on the matter, and forces her sexually. Yes, she has been attracted to him, but she is not given a choice. He is tall and strong; he pins her down when she is asleep, and bam, it's a done deal. He even apologizes as he is doing it, which indicates he knows full well that she has not given consent.

I like a book with a strong sensual element, but sorry, rape is not sensual. It is an act of violence, debasement and control. And the author wants us to believe that the heroine enjoyed it.

Words fail me at this point. Buyer beware.

I thought this book was a very good read. It involved all emotions from funny to heart breaking. It left you with the AHH feeling. You can't help falling in love with Cade. The book makes you think of others and not just yourself or your own needs/desires. Enjoyed it very much!

I have to be honest. The book was dragging on and on.. I have only read about half of it. I keep trying to read more of it, but it just keeps going on and on and doesn't really seem to go anywhere. I really wanted to like it.
