DON WORCESTER is the author of several books and many articles about the Old West, and of the poignant book A Visit from Father and Other Tales of the Mojave, also published by Texas A&M University Press. He is a professor emeritus of history at Texas Christian University.

Worcester's book on Longhorn cattle was poorly researched and has spread so much confusion that dedicated breeders must constantly work to undo his misinformation. Crooked cattle breeders continue to take advantage of this mess to run scams. The captions under the illustrations don't even get the genders of the animals in the photos right. His book on Mustang horses is even worse.
