Editorial Reviews

Two of college football's most historic programs will take the field at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on January 7th to decide the BCS National Championship. Head Coach Nick Saban's Alabama Crimson Tide (13-0) finished with their second consecutive undefeated regular season and topped defending national champion Florida to capture the SEC Championship. The Texas Longhorns (13-0), behind head coach Mack Brown, won the Big 12 Championship to earn their shot at top ranked Alabama. Alabama is seeking their first national championship since 1992. Texas won their last title on this same Rose Bowl turf in 2006 as they topped the USC Trojans. This isn't the first time these two programs have met in a bowl either although it is the first since 1982. The Longhorns have a 7-0-1 record against the Tide.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Production, February 16, 2010
This is the "official" 2009 championship year highlight DVD, marketed through the University of Alabama website as well as through other sources, so I thought it would be the best. I was wrong. It covers all 14 of the games Alabama played in 2009, with video highlights accompanied by Alabama broadcaster Eli Gold's play-by-play. So far, so good. The aspect ratio appears to be 4:3, or "fullscreen," rather than high-definition 16:9, but that's minor, as a lot of people don't yet have HD television sets. The quality of the video varies from game to game. Again, this is minor, as the producers had to take whatever the feed was.

Most of the regular-season game videos are pretty good. The two championship games (SEC and National) are not. The SEC championship game against Florida has some odd cutting within plays that make it hard to follow who has the ball, and the audio level in halftime interview with Nick Saban is so faint that I had to turn the volume up considerably in order to hear it, only to be blasted by the normal audio level when the second-half highlights began.

But the National Championship game against Texas saves the worst for last. Eli Gold's play-by-play narration is totally absent. In its place is a mashup of plays with a background of a hip-hop or rap audio track (I will not dignify it by calling it a song). The scores are never shown as they are made. The tackle of Colt McCoy that forced him to leave the game is not shown, or if it is, it is lost in the mishmash of other video. I'm not even sure the snippets of plays are in chronological order. What passes for the game is followed by the locker room celebration, which is OK. And then the screen goes black for several minutes, at the end of which is a silent clip from the Ole Miss game that appears to have been left in by mistake.

All in all, a very disappointing production. Whoever was in charge of it should be demoted or fired, and a new, clean production should be made and exchanged at no cost for everyone who bought this DVD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disapointed!, June 19, 2011
This review is from: Texas Longhorns 2009 BCS National Champions DVD (DVD)
Love this game, can watch it over, and over, but the picture quality is very bad!, this is a National Championship game, you would think that it would be of the best Quality, but it is not, and I don't like that the game don't play straight through, it play's a quarter at a time!, so after the first quarter, you have to click on the 2nd quarter to watch the next! I don't regret buying it, because I am a Huge Alabama fan, but it could have been much better quality!

This was a very good DVD and even though the format was stated as 4:3 I was able to view wide screen when I played it.
