not what I expected, June 3, 2009
This review is from: Texas Peppers: The Jalapeno Cookbook (Flavors of Home) (Plastic Comb)
My biggest disappointment was the size and quality for the cost. This book is a very small, postcard size, spiral bound along the top, homemade looking book. There are no photos. Some of the recipes really are great, but pretty basic, and include ingredients like ketchup, velveeta cheese, canned chilies, pickled jalapenos, "packaged mexican salad dressing mix," canned chili, canned refried beans, canned olives, mayonnaise, and refrigerated pizza crust.
I have a friend who will love this book, but I found very few recipes I would make without having to creatively substitute for all the pre-processed food ingredients. I think it would be worth $5 at the most, even less than that to me. I actually bought it as a gift to give with a rack for roasting stuffed peppers, but there were only three recipes for stuffed peppers, one of which required frying, and one was no-bake canned peppers.
I will say that the book description does portray its size. I think I just jumped too quickly on the name and cover photo. Also, a word of warning to vegetarians, many if not most of the recipes include meat.

Think twice, July 16, 2011
This review is from: Texas Peppers: The Jalapeno Cookbook (Flavors of Home) (Plastic Comb)
Index card sized recipe book contains no pictures and is just an unorganized mix of anything containing Jalapenos. It has only one or two recipes for stuffed peppers, so if you are buying it to go with the Jalapeno cooker - don't bother. I would not recommend paying more than $2 for this cookbook.

If you like jalapenos and spicy foods, you'll love this book! My copy came at the perfect time - just when the jalapenos in my garden were starting to ripen.
