2.0 out of 5 stars Not A Good Game, May 29, 2005
This review is from: Texas Hold 'Em Poker SuperStars Invitational Tournament (CD-ROM)
When I purchased this game I was hoping to have some reasonable AI, but I was dissappointed. All the players play the same; it doesn't matter if you are going against T.J. Cloutier or Gus Hanson, they play the same in this game. When the cpu gets any pair they jam the pot till they are allin. If they have no pair, they simply give up. This programming is way too immature for the serious player; however, the price is reasonable for the low quality entertainment it provides.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best poker game out there, April 6, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Texas Hold 'Em Poker SuperStars Invitational Tournament (CD-ROM)

There are a lot of really bad texas hold 'em games out there (I've played a bunch of 'em), and this one seems to go against and the trend and actually is very well done.

It follows the Poker Superstars TV show. You get to play against some well known poker players - like Doyle Brunson. It looks pretty nice and follows the show's graphics, music too. I really liked the crowd aplauding my good hands.

The AI is pretty good, much better than average, and a lot better than some of the really bad ones I've played against. It definitely took me a while to win a couple of rounds, and still working on winning the tournament.

All in all, a pretty great game, glad to finally have a poker game that I like to play - perfect for laptop play on my business trips.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great fun, but very basic, July 7, 2005

This review is from: Texas Hold 'Em Poker SuperStars Invitational Tournament (CD-ROM)
I downloaded this game because I had just played hold'em for the first time a couple of weeks earlier. I wanted a game that was fun and this one definitely fit the bill. This is an easy game to get started. Unlike other "trainers" there aren't a lot of options that must be set up (this is also a fault.

The AI is interesting. Unlike a other reviewers I could see a difference in style with some of the players. For instance, Phil Ivey almost never bluffs. TJ is impatient and will go all in at the slightest whim.

The early tables are easy. After a few hands I was able to bluff when I needed and suck players into going all in. The final table however, the players all of a sudden start playing looser. Where most would fold prior to the flop, at least 1 or two players always stay in sometimes up to the river.

My main gripe is the lack of true tournament play. If I lose at the first table I am not out of the tournament. Each game is a new table with new chips. The tournament is set so that the 8 players playing will play 7 tables. The purpose of the first 6 tables is to determine the final table starting chip amount.

Basically I could lose each of the first tables and still make it to the final table, just with a reduced chip amount. To me this is one of the downsides of the game. I wish the tournament gave you new players at each table and required you to win the table to advance.

All in all, if you are just looking for a fun game to play, this is a good choice. I have had the game for about 2 months now and I still play a few hands when I need to relax.
