This book is a comprehensive look at Texas politics which in itself is somewhat confusing, but the style of the book tends to cloud the issue even more. It sometimes uses examples that are not exactly on point and if you don't live in Texas than you may not fully understand the point of reference it comes from. Overall though, it is a detailed and comprehensive. The book offers some great study questions at the end of each chapter. This book tends to really very frank with it's criticism of the Texas political machine and on occasion it leans to the right somewhat, but heck, this is Texas, what did you expect.

I paid $2 for this as it was an old edition, Contained all the information I needed to pass the class.

This book is a must have for those interested in Texas politics and want a great starting book to get them involved. The cartoons in this book are very thought provoking; Just by checking them out you'll have your own summary on some of the major obstacles in Texas politics... I finished my class and im keeping the book for future references :)

Backspine and pages frayed. Looked like water spilled on it pages wavey at top. Will work fine for class. No writing or highlighting in book.

I bought this book as a textbook, but I have to say that it is one of the most entertaining textbooks that I have had. If it was not a required reading, I definitely would read it for pleasure. Texas and Texas politics are hard concepts to wrap your head around especially if you don't live in Texas. It is a big state and plays a prominent role in national politics and our relationship with Mexico. This book takes a very candid look without boring the reading to death or feeling like you are reading a press release. Read it and find out what makes the Lone Star State tick. It is very well written.
