The collaborative work of Charles H. Harris III and Louis R. Sadler (both of whom are Professor Emeritus of History at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces), and Frances E. Harris (Associate Professor Emeritus of Nursing, New Mexico State University), "Texas Ranger Biographies: Those Who Served 1910-1920" is a 432-page compendium of succinctly written biographical sketches of all those who served as Texas Rangers. In 1920 the era of Texas Rangers serving to protect the citizenry from outlaws and marauding Native Americans has come to an end with calls in the state legislature to abolish them as a no longer justifiable expense. Then the Mexican Revolution began, originally launched from Texas on November 20, 1910 and for the next decade the role of the Texas Rangers was to deal with the subsequent border problems associated with the revolutionary activity of diverse and often hostile Mexican factions attempting to raise funds and recruits on Texas soil for their on-going conflicts. The results of more than 30 years of meticulous scholarship and seminal research, "Texas Ranger Biographies" is a unique historical record and an essential addition to academic library 19th Century American History reference shelves in general, and Texas Historical Studies collections in particular.
