Review

Jack Bass had told him to stay put while he went in search for his Apache father. Kenitay wanders off, and he is taken with the rest of the Indians to a camp in Florida, making him think that his stepfather abandoned him. After thirteen years, Kenitay, a halfbreed, returns to seek revenge on the Bass family. He escaped the Indian camp after he hit a guard, but the guard died because his throat was slit. Kenitay is also in pursuit of the men who killed his Apache father. On his way back to Texas, he comes upon a group of outlaws and Leisha Bass. Leisha feels that her father, Harmon, favors her brother simply because he is a male. She wants to prove to her father that she is strong and capable and she wants to make him proud of her. She has tracked the men who robbed a bank and shot the sheriff, but she let her guard down just long enough for one of them to sneak up on her. He rapes her and she kills him. She returns to the camp for the other outlaws, but she wavers and right before she faints she is rescued by a man with green eyes who speaks to her in Apache. When she wakes up in her own bed, she recalls the man who helped her and she thinks she knows him. Leisha rides out to find him, and the tracks lead to Kenitay. One by one, Kenitay meets members of the Bass family. They are shocked, surprised and happy to see him again. Jack explains what happened that day, and Kenitay understands how and why his life had changed. Ross Westfall and his partner Beech, killed Kenitay's Apache father and beat him. Westfall also killed Harmon Basses? mother and sister. Harm and Kenitay have a score to settle with Westfall and Beech. Leisha still feels that she must prove herself to her father so she decides to bring Westfall to him and she teams up with Kenitay to bring the men to justice. Leisha and Kenitay make many insightful discoveries as they pursue their enemies; the most important one is that the loving embers that were there when they were children has developed into adult passion. Before he and Leisha can share a future together, Kenitay must resolve the problems of his past and that endangers the whole Bass family.Ms. Ransom writes with flare! 5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Bass Famly Story, March 5, 2005

This review is from: Texas Renegade (Paperback)
This book, the fourth in the Bass family series, is very good, just like the others. It focuses on Leisha, Harmon and Amanda's oldest daughter. This girl has issues! She idolizes her father, but doesn't think much of her mom. She also despises her only brother, because she wants her dad to value her as if she was a son. Leisha is sneaky at times, and has a chip on her shoulder. What I like about the story though,is that gradually, she changes and comes to appreciate all that she once misunderstood. This has a lot to do of course, with Kenitay, the handsome half-breed who comes back to her and the Bass family, years after a tragic separation. This story has wonderful characters and Ms. Ransom is not afraid to create characters that are flawed, but still worthy of love --just like real people. I recommend the whole Bass family series.
