Book Description

March 1, 2010
City gal Dani Davis just wants to find a place to call home. Miller's Creek, Texas, with its country charm and quirky citizens seems like the perfect place to start over. Perfect, that is, except for the cowboy who gives her a ride into town... Dani secretly finances renovations to downtown Miller's Creek, but malicious rumors force her to choose between keeping her involvement a secret and the home for which she's always longed. Then the discovery of an age-old secret propel her down a road she never expected to travel. Steve Miller is determined to save his dying hometown. When vandalism jeopardizes the Miller's Creek restoration project, he can't help but suspect Dani, whose strange behavior has become fodder for local gossips. Will Steve and Dani be able to call a truce for a higher cause, and in the process help Dani understand the true meaning of home?

Review

I can not express in words how much I enjoyed reading this book! Cathy's vibrant words and characters make this story come alive. I could barely put the book down as each page held more anticipation. --Carie Shane at Carie's Coins and Cents

Texas Roads is one of those books that you love to curl up in your favorite place and read from cover to cover. From the first page, I was caught up in the story. --Donna Morris

I read this book in one sitting, because I couldn't wait to find out what was happening next. A little romance, a little suspense, a little mystery--but a big wonderful story that make me want to read more! --Valita Randolph

I have been enchanted by Cathy Bryant's "Texas Roads". From the first few pages, the reader is introduced to a lovely little town and a way of life that seems completely lost in our fast food, instant gratification world... --Stacey

From the Author

The theme for TEXAS ROADS came from my own quest to find home. For years, my family and I seemed destined to move from one small Texas town to another. I longed to put down roots, but just about the time we'd start to feel like a part of things, God moved us on to another place. Through this process God taught me that as a pilgrim on this planet, my true home is found in Him. No place will ever fill that home-sized hole in my heart except Him.

I hope readers enjoy Miller's Creek, Texas, and feel like they've arrived somewhere vaguely familiar. Stay tuned for more of the fine folks from Miller's Creek.

At home in HIM,
Cathy

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED this story!, March 7, 2010

Love 2 Read Novels "Sherry" (a small town in Kansas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Texas Roads (Paperback)
Dani Davis loves being a teacher in Dallas but the rest of her life has fallen apart. Losing her father, her husband and a fight with her mother puts her on the road to Miller Creek to visit her Aunt Beth and maybe find a place she can call home. Steve Miller hates the city and can tell right away that's where Dani's from. Sparks fly between these two before they even make it to town! As she settles in for her visit she begins to envy the sense of belonging that the people of Miller Creek have. They all seem to accept and like her and she is beginning to think she has finally found the home see seeks. Aunt Beth keeps telling her that our only real home is with Jesus. As talk of renovating the town begins she decides she could help by secretly putting her inheritance to good use. But when bad things start happening and rumors begin to make there way around town that Dani is somehow involved she feels like the home she's just found is slowly fading away.

I LOVED this story! Cathy's writing is vibrant and fresh. It's loaded with very likeable characters and zippy dialog. I enjoyed getting to know Dani. What an honest woman she was. Steve was a great hero who would do whatever he could to protect those he loves. Aunt Beth is a gem. What a wise woman of God. The secondary characters were very well drawn and I felt like I wanted to move to Miller Creek myself. This was Cathy Bryant's first novel but her writing is that of a seasoned author. She kept me turning pages from start to finish. You could tell this author was writing from the heart. I love the spiritual message of this story. We can all relate to finding a place to call home. I'm looking forward with great anticipation to future works by Cathy Bryant. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Texas Roads, March 6, 2010

I was lucky enough to be allowed to review this book before it came out. I am not one who likes mushy romance. Therefore this book was one I really enjoyed. Dani came from a privileged life yet here she was running to some hick town to visit an aunt she didn't even know. Running out of gas she is lucky enough to get picked up by Steve, a very handsome man who is also the mayor of Miller's Creek. Steve and Dani immediately get off on the wrong foot. They prejudge each other. This is made worse by the fact that the one person they have in common is Mama Beth. Dani has been looking for a place to call home for a long time. She thinks she finds it in the dying town of Millers Creek and sets about helping revive the town. Dani's secrets along with her mother's feelings of betrayal come to a head one night when Danie learns the biggest secret of all. The only thing she can do is run until she realizes the only way she will find her way home is through God.

This was a well written book. The old saying of "show don't tell" is exactly what Cathy Bryant has done. I grew up in the country and could feel the breeze blowing through my hair, and smell the country smells. It took me down memory lane. I laughed and cried and worried throughout the book. I read it through in one sitting. This is definitely a book I will recommend to all of my friends. This is the type of book I would re-read again and again. I was pleasantly surprised to get a glimpse into the second book in this series and I look forward to reading it when it comes out. Cathy Bryant is a talented writer and one we need to keep our eye on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet story!, June 17, 2011

It's so hard to write a good review without giving too much away! Even though we meet our heroine and hero right away, it's not predictable and boring. It keeps you interested, makes you wonder and even can make you *sigh* when you get your happy ending!

This was one of the sweetest stories I've read in a while. Cathy Bryant is a Christian author, and she writes well and includes the Word in her story but without being preachy as some Christian authors can be.

I loved this (the first part of her Miller's Creek series) so much that I'm already reading part two - which I found at the library where I work.

Can't wait to see more of Cathy Bryant's work!
