Book Description

City gal Dani Davis just wants a place to call home. With quirky residents, quaint country charm, and loads of business potential, Miller's Creek Texas seems like the perfect place to start over . . . except for the cowboy who gives her a ride into town. Dani secretly finances renovations to downtown Miller’s Creek, but malicious rumors force her to choose between keeping her involvement a secret and the home for which she’s always longed. Then a devastating discovery propels her down a road she never expected to travel.

Steve Miller is determined to rescue his dying hometown. When vandals jeopardize the renovation, he can’t help but suspect Dani, whose strange behavior has become fodder for local gossips. Can Steve and Dani call a truce for a higher cause, and in the process help Dani recognize the true meaning of home?

Editorial Reviews

Review

I can not express in words how much I enjoyed reading this book! Cathy's vibrant words and characters make this story come alive. I could barely put the book down as each page held more anticipation. --Carie Shane at Carie's Coins and Cents

Texas Roads is one of those books that you love to curl up in your favorite place and read from cover to cover. From the first page, I was caught up in the story. --Donna Morris

I have been enchanted by Cathy Bryant's "Texas Roads". From the first few pages, the reader is introduced to a lovely little town and a way of life that seems completely lost in our fast food, instant gratification world... --Stacey

From the Author

The theme for TEXAS ROADS came from my own quest to find home. For years, my family and I seemed destined to move from one small Texas town to another. I longed to put down roots, but just about the time we'd start to feel like a part of things, God moved us on to another place. Through this process God taught me that as a pilgrim on this planet, my true home is found in Him. No place will ever fill that home-sized hole in my heart except Him.

I hope readers enjoy Miller's Creek, Texas, and feel like they've arrived somewhere vaguely familiar. Stay tuned for more of the fine folks from Miller's Creek.

At home in HIM,
Cathy

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED this story! March 7, 2010
Format:Paperback
Dani Davis loves being a teacher in Dallas but the rest of her life has fallen apart. Losing her father, her husband and a fight with her mother puts her on the road to Miller Creek to visit her Aunt Beth and maybe find a place she can call home. Steve Miller hates the city and can tell right away that's where Dani's from. Sparks fly between these two before they even make it to town! As she settles in for her visit she begins to envy the sense of belonging that the people of Miller Creek have. They all seem to accept and like her and she is beginning to think she has finally found the home see seeks. Aunt Beth keeps telling her that our only real home is with Jesus. As talk of renovating the town begins she decides she could help by secretly putting her inheritance to good use. But when bad things start happening and rumors begin to make there way around town that Dani is somehow involved she feels like the home she's just found is slowly fading away.

I LOVED this story! Cathy's writing is vibrant and fresh. It's loaded with very likeable characters and zippy dialog. I enjoyed getting to know Dani. What an honest woman she was. Steve was a great hero who would do whatever he could to protect those he loves. Aunt Beth is a gem. What a wise woman of God. The secondary characters were very well drawn and I felt like I wanted to move to Miller Creek myself. This was Cathy Bryant's first novel but her writing is that of a seasoned author. She kept me turning pages from start to finish. You could tell this author was writing from the heart. I love the spiritual message of this story. We can all relate to finding a place to call home. I'm looking forward with great anticipation to future works by Cathy Bryant. I highly recommend this book.

Serenity is never something to be underestimated. "Texas Roads" tells the story of this small remote town, and Dani Davis in particular, a girl looking for a low key and quiet life. But nothing is without drawbacks, not even Miller's creek, as rumors about Dani start to spread and her life changes forever. "Texas Roads" is a tale about small town life and how everything twists together.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Debut by Bryant! June 17, 2010
Format:Paperback
When I was given the chance to read the debut novel, TEXAS ROADS, I was very excited and not disappointed in the least at the quality of the story.
The story is a sweet romance, a searching heart and a moving story of God's love all rolled up into one.
The story grows and develops throughout the story, bringing the reader in. It is a simple story about finding home. There were moments of faith messages, but it didn't feel preachy and flowed naturally with the story.
I thought the characters were well portrayed and showed a great deal of heart. By far my favorite character was Mama Beth, but the growing that Dani (the heroine) and Steve (the hero) did were gradual, but felt real. I wasn't rushed in understanding their motivations and growth.
There was depth to the book with different angles that enhanced the main plot. The setting became like a second character, but it wasn't without its quirks.
This is an excellent debut novel and after the sneak peek in the back of this book, I am looking forward to reading the second book.
All in all I really enjoyed this book, it has a homey feel to it, the kind of book to snuggle up with and get lost within its pages.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Home Town Feel August 29, 2010
Format:Paperback
I'm so thankful for the review copy of Cathy Bryant's heart warming, debut novel. I've never been to Texas but I'd love to go to Miller's Creek, a quaint little town, with its friendly neighbors, beauty, innocence and fun. It reminded me of the town of Mayberry in the Andy Griffith T.V. shows. It was a quieter, simpler life back then. The main character is Dani, raised in the city, visits her Mama Beth, who reminded me of Aunt May, on the Andy Griffith show. Everyone in this little town loved her and called her Mama Beth. Dani felt drawn to this town and for a place she could call home.

She didn't expect to run out of gas upon entering this town. A man offers her a ride. City girls just don't get into a car with a stranger. Steve tries to assure Dani he is just interested in helping her get to where she is going...nothing more. He's already sized Dani up to be a spoiled brat who's over-dressed and he's unimpressed. He can't wait to deliver her to her destination.

The next day she wakes up in her Aunt Beth's house to find Steve there, the man who gave her a ride. Was this man following her? Dani's aunt informs her he is the Mayor. Great she's off to a swell start in this small town.

Dani has an ache in her heart to find a place called home. In that search, she realizes she has a hole in her heart and a need to fill this emptiness inside. She discovers this hole can't be filled with a place, but instead it can be filled with a person not of this world. Her Aunt Beth's been praying for her and she agrees to go to church. It's the least she could do for her Aunt. Church isn't what she thought it would be like. That's when the fun begins.

Cathy Bryant pens a fun, cozy, spirited romance story, which I enjoyed. I loved her characters, the town and it's people.
