Better Than Chocolate,
By Wendy Kaplan (Houston) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Texas! Sage (Texas! Tyler Family Saga) (Mass Market Paperback)
There was a time when I sneered at Romance novels, although I had never read one. Then one dark and stormy night, alone in an Outer Banks beach house, I picked up a well-tattered paperback of Sandra Brown's "Sage," and I simply devoured it.Although I didn't know it at the time, "Sage" is Book Three of Brown's Texas! trilogy, but I'm glad I read it first. The story opens as spoiled, beautiful and headstrong Sage Tyler is dumped by her mama's-boy fiance. Pouting out on the porch of the fiance's mansion, she looks up to find tall, gorgeous, cowboy Harlan Boyd, who has been sent by the Tylers to fetch her home. The sparks fly, and the action begins. The sexual tension between Harlan and Sage expresses itself in outward animosity, and the sparring between the two forms a humerous backdrop to the rest of the story, which involves Sage's two protective brothers, Lucky and Chase, their wives, Mama Tyler and her Sheriff boyfriend, and a threat to the family business. Like all Brown stories, this one is well plotted, believable, and very, very sexy. The inevitable and explosive meeting of Sage and Harlan, which begins with a furious and physical fight, and ends with the steamiest love scene I've read in quite a while, will have you fanning yourself. But naturally, the course of true love is never smooth, and with two strong-minded, stubborn, ornery Texans like Sage and Harlan, it gets so bumpy that the reader wonders if this is one romance that will not have a happy ending. I won't give it away. But I will say that for pure, luscious escapism and a really good story, this book remains in my top ten of all time.

Love's mess,

This review is from: Texas! Sage (Texas! Tyler Family Saga) (Mass Market Paperback)
In "Texas Sage" this young, fresh from college girl is about to get the surprise of her life expecting an engagement ring from her fiancé but only to get the boot. As if that wasn't bad enough this weird annoying guy named Harlan overheard everything and won't let her live it down. Taking her back home she finds out that her family business is in deep trouble, so trying not to let her older brothers Chase and Lucky find out about her ex she has to watch Harlan and make him not tell, but she starts to get this attraction to him. Harlan finds Sage this selfish little brat that is the most beautiful thing he has ever seen, but why would she want someone who just moves around when she could settle down with someone rich. Now when her families business is about to close Harlan and her must travel across Texas in order to get some business and save the Tyler business, but also they have to come to terms with their feelings before its to late. While traveling Harlan sees some people he never wanted to see again and must come to terms with his past if he is to help Sage and her family but most importantly himself. In it a lot of people find love or already have it, love is the main thing that Sage wants and tries to get whether it's from her family or Harlan. Powerful, emotional and very good this book "Texas Sage" is the book for you if romance and adventure is what you're after. I recommend it highly but caution also because it has a lot of kissing and bed scenes so not for anyone little.

THE LONE STAR STATE ISN'T LONELY ANYMORE,
This review is from: Texas! Sage (Audio CD)
This is the first narration we've heard by Actors Studio member Coleen Marlo, and it's prime listening as she captures the voice of our plucky heroine Sage Tyler. Marlo is an accomplished actress and knows not to imbue these characters with outre Texas accents but delivers her reading with subtle permutations of the sounds of the Lone Star State. With TEXAS! SAGE, the final offering in the Tyler family trilogy thye focus is on Sage, a smart gal with an MBA from the University of Texas. Yes, she's intelligent, quick, but perhaps not so adept at picking men. Sage is expecting Santa to bring her an engagement ring but instead she finds a lump of coal - in other words she's jilted. So she returns home for the holidays, hoping to get over her fiancé. Well. There is a lot to keep her mind occupied - the family business has taken a nose dive and there's a rather annoying new guy around, Harlan Boyd, a drifter hired to try to salvage Tyler Drilling. Well, this is Sandra Brown - need we say that sparks fly between Harlan and Sage, especially when they begin working and bedding together? But, Harlan has some issues in his past and is disinclined to commitment. Brown fans well know how TEXAS! SAGE will turn out but will thoroughly enjoy hearing about it from Coleen Marlo. - Gail Cooke

Wonderful conclusion to the series,

This review is from: Texas! Sage (Texas! Tyler Family Saga) (Mass Market Paperback)
It is Christmas Eve in Houston, Texas. Sage Tyler is eagerly expecting an engagement ring from her boyfriend. Instead, the wimpy zit doctor (as her brothers like to call him) breaks the news to her. Before she even has the chance to say Merry Christmas, she finds herself jilted. To make matters worse, Tyler Drilling's new employee is witness to her humiliation. With her sister in law due to give birth any minute, Harlan Boyd has been sent by Lucky Tyler to fetch Sage. While her humiliation is bad enough, Sage finds herself infuriated by Harlan's teasing and easy-going manner. But while the two starts off in a rather shaky ground, neither can deny the sexual attraction that sizzles deep within. And there begins the problem...Wow! What a way to conclude the Tyler saga. Sage is exactly as delightful, headstrong and (at times) annoying as I thought her to be from the first two books. I absolutely enjoyed the animosity between her and Harlan. The verbal spat, constant teasing and sizzling sexual chemistry were just fun to read. It was also good to find out more about Sage--her hidden insecurities and secret dreams add seriousness to her character. As for Harlan, well what a sexy cowboy! Sage never had a chance with that man! He is absolutely gorgeous and sexy just as Mama Tyler describes him. What's more, the guy is intelligent and possesses a good head for business. TEXAS! SAGE is without a doubt the best in the series. There are plenty of laughs to be had; sexual tension to make the page sizzle and you will just adore seeing the whole Tyler clan together, especially Lucky with his warped sense of humor. Wait until you read his story telling in the end. Even the secondary romance between Laurie (Mama Tyler) and Sheriff Pat add to the fun. Although the unexpected twist toward the end is rather formulaic, I thought it was a great way to end the story and the trilogy. Simply a perfect ending to the Texas! Saga.

Wow! This is a fantastic series of stories about the 3 Tyler siblings. And this is the thrid story in the series.Sage Tyler is a spoiled brat and I didn't think I would like this story because she really got on my nerves as the bratty kid sister in the first two. However, she did a lot of growing up and was much better in her own story. Harlan was too sexy! Sandra did a great job with all the leading men in this trilogy. I had my own private love affairs with Lucky, Chase and Harlan! Each one of these stories lead into the next and the journey is phenominal! This is a fantastic trilogy and I am not usually a "re-reader", but I am keeping this one to read again!

The trilogy with a end,

This review is from: Texas! Sage (Texas! Tyler Family Saga) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read texas lucky and texas chase and they were fantastic stories. Unfortunately its coming to an end with texas sage which I found very hot. I felt like I was in Sage's position in front of Harlan which is a very handsome and sexy young man. I think the characters were very well written. The plot was very good and the scenes between Sage and Harlan was realyyyy hot. I like all Sandra Brown books but those three were the most loveable ones I've read. I'm giving this book five stars because it deserves that. I couldn't put it down and read it in one day without doing anything. You must read this book because you will find friendship, love, desire, family bonds and respect. And I'm sure you will love Harlan and Sage.

This review is from: Texas! Sage (Texas! Tyler Family Saga) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was my first Sandra Brown book and I just loved it! I'm sorry that I didn't realize that this book was the third in a trilogy about the Tyler family but and thrilled that my introduction to her works was this one. Now I can't wait to go back and read the first two books of the series.Sage Tyler is the youngest of the three Tyler children; she was two older brothers, Lucky and Chase. This story starts out with her fiancee breaking up with her which is overheard by Harlan Boyd the newest employee of the Tyler Drilling Company. Since Sage had been busy finishing up school she was unaware her brothers had hired a new employee who is annoyingly self-assured and very good looking. Sage and Harlan of course start out on the wrong foot and there's lots of tension between the two of them. There is also a fair amount of attraction and sexual tension between them. There ensues quite a relationship between them and a new relationship between Sage and her brothers. All in all an enthralling story. I didn't want to put it down and I wasn't ready to leave the Tyler family; in fact I want to join the Tyler family!

The Final Chapter in the Texas Series...4 Stars.....,

This review is from: Texas! Sage (Texas! Tyler Family Saga) (Mass Market Paperback)
I really liked Sage Tyler in the previous two books, 'Lucky' and 'Chase', but she was a little too haughty and bratty in this one. She's older now and 'grown-up', but she acts more immature in my opinion.Coming on the heels of the emotinal rollarcoaster ride in Chase's book, Sage finds herself dumped and alone on the porch steps of her fiance; Christmas Eve no less and a chuckling and handsome cowboy named Harlan to witness it all in its humilitating end in the shadows. Sent by her brothers to come and get her so she wouldn't miss the birth of her newest nephew/niece, this time from her oldest brother and his new wife Marcie, the cowboy and newest worker Harlan Boyd. Harlan doesn't play games and isn't interested in a spoiled brat like Sage Tyler. But she somehow gets under his skin like a prickly cactus and tall, blonde and sinfully gorgeous Harlan bites off more than he can chew. Sparks ensue when both try to hide there attraction for one another and the family company Tyler Drilling is almost in ruins making tensions worse. But Harlan has something up his sleeve that could save them all. Can Sage put aside her anyomosity for one week to work by his side? Can she put aside her headstrong and spoiled ways to see the heart of the man inside? Good story and finish to the series, I was just a bit put off by her bratty self involvement to fully enjoy the story. Harlan although was great and I truly liked him, and Lucky shined in this book with his off color jokes and humor. The brothers and mother made it worthwhile. Tracy Talley~@

I did not like the character of this book. She reminded me of a spoiled brat with bully brothers. Considering her education she didn't seem to be very smart. I really did not care for this book very much and was glad to have finished it so I could read something more interesting and entertaining. This was not one of Sandra Brown's better novels.
