This review is from: Texas Shrimpers: Community, Capitalism, and the Sea (Hardcover)
This book tells it like it used to be. I suspect it is the same today but much has changed in the shrimping industry since this book was published. The Shrimpers themselves (ones that actually went out on the boats) led a hard life - gone from home much of the time, a great number, but not all, were prone to drink and violence. Their women were strong, kept an immaculate house, raised their families with little help from the men.
