A different side of Mr Checker..what could have been & is, January 25, 2012
This review is from: Texas Twist (Audio CD)
This little CD brings fans of Chubby Checker-and, indeed, country music fans, too-another side to consider and appreciate of this multi-talented artist.
'The Twist' gets a country makeover here that's worth the price of admission alone: jamming guitars, driving bass and drums combined with Chubby's mature, rich vocal will make anyone want to get up and dance!
Also of interest to fans of 60's dance music will be 'Slow Twistin'which pairs old Cameo Records label mate Dee Dee Sharp with Chubby for a remake to end all remakes. This is country-soul music on steroids, folks.
I thought the ballads 'Run To Me' and 'From Here to Eternity' brought out the best of what the musician's involved here had to offer, and Chubby's reading of the lyrics is emotionally charged.
The tunes are true to the genre of country music without losing the personality of Chubby Checker in the mix; take note that three of the twelve songs were co-written by Mr Twist himself.
In summation, do yourself a favor and buy this CD or download the songs here on Amazon-it's not to be missed.

I got this CD as a "gift" from Providian (or Bank of America). It is truly the absolute worst Chubby Checker music ever. There's no particular theme, his voice is bad. it's neither country nor early rock, just some mish-mash. The only thing I can think is that he owed some money on his Visa and this was part of his settlement, like Willie Nelson and the IRS Tapes. Either way, I'd never, ever, ever, recommend anyone buy this CD.
