Book Description

Harlequin Super Romance July 14, 2009

The days of Susannah Everly dreaming about white dresses, churches and Trent Maxwell are long gone. So it's more than a little funny that she finds herself actually married to the guy. But she's determined to save the family ranch by any means possible, and if Trent is those means...

Still, they both know the deal. This is a business arrangement and there are rules. Rules that do not include rekindling those old feelings or surprise midnight seductions. So what's Susannah to do when Trent seems determined to break their agreement? Especially when what he offers is way too tempting.

More About the Author

Since the day Harlequin bought her first novel, Kathleen has published more than 30 titles with them- everything from hot, sexy contemporaries to dark, brooding suspense. Read in more than 30 countries and 29 languages, she's a five-time finalist for the prestigious RWA RITA Award, a winner of the Maggie Award, and a three-time finalist for Romantic Times' Reviewer's Choice.

Kathleen comes from a family of writers, poets, and journalists- though she may be the one shameless romantic in the bunch. A true Cancer, she values home and family above everything and wouldn't dream of ditching a single friend, memory, gift, or love letter. Consequently, her office is a mess, full of books, colored cut glass, photo albums, Madame Alexander dolls, and a cockatiel who whistles the theme from "The X Files." She is addicted to Mozart and Elvis, Dancing With the Stars, Dorothy Dunnett novels, and sugar-free Popsicles.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great series by a fabulous author, October 23, 2009
This review is from: Texas Wedding (Harlequin Super Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Texas Wedding is a beautifully crafted story filled with the angst only a marriage of convenience can bring. Kathleen O'Brien has created an exciting Cowboy Country series against a rustic ranch setting in Texas cattle country. Nothing means more to a rancher than her land, and Ms. O'Brien captures Susannah's determination to keep hers, like a modern-day Scarlett defending South Texas Tara. Contrary to the previous reviewer's confusion, it is Susannah's uncertainty and inherent conflict between her legacy in the land and the man she's loved in the past that make this story spark. After all, if the main characers are all hearts and flowers from the beginning, there's really nothing left to tell. Ms. O'Brien use of setting and character's history draws you in to Susannah's dilemma and have you rooting for her all the way to the end. An epilogue is simply redundant when Susannah and Trent and the rest of the Cowboy Country characters have already had their happy ending. I can't wait for another Kathleen O'Brien story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Texas Wedding, November 1, 2010
To get her farm and inheritance out of potential forfeit, Susannah does the one thing that she swore she would never do. She married her nemesis, Trent Maxwell, and must stay married for at least a year, because of her overbearing grandfather's will. The only problem with this arrangement is that Trent wants to have all the benefits of a marriage and Susannah isn't sure that after more than a decade of hating Trent, she can let him back into her mind and heart as a good guy.

When things seem to mysteriously keep getting worse for Susannah's peach farm, will they be able to come together and figure what is going on or will they continue to use all their efforts against each other. Trent is definitely ready to let bygones be bygones, but will Susannah?

If you like to read about strong women trying to exist in a traditionally male profession, such as farm ownership, then you will definitely enjoy Texas Wedding. I was hooked from the start of Susannah's story until the very end, though I did realize a few things along the way. There are a number of twists and turns that make the journey interesting. I would definitely love to read about Susannah's little sister in a future romance. Sexy cowboys are definitely a genre that Ms. O'Brien can write about, in my book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save Your Money!, August 25, 2009
This review is from: Texas Wedding (Harlequin Super Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is the second in the series by Kathleen O'Brien, the first being Texas Baby, I love the first book, and I rushed out to read Susannah and Trent's story. Sadly, this book fails. I loved Trent in this story, and I thought he was a great character, and a humble man. Susannah on the other hand is what made this story fail. She lives in the past, and can't let go of past mistakes. Through the whole she is hot and cold, and after a while it gets old. Josie and Clay has a bit part in this book, but it wasn't enough to save it. Maybe is the author would have put an epilogue in the book, it would have made it better. I know some author's wrap up their series with an epilogue to give readers a glimpse at the characters, but this book just ends. There really isn't any closure between the two characters; they make up, but it isn't enough to make the reader feel giddy while reading it.
