5.0 out of 5 stars "The King of B-Westerns & Serials...VCI Entertainment ~ Texas Wildcats (1939)", February 19, 2006
This review is from: Texas Wildcats [VHS] (VHS Tape)
VCI Entertainment and Puritan Pictures present "Texas Wildcats" (1939) (Dolby
digitally remastered)...relive those thrilling days from the early '30s and '40s
when drama took us down the dusty trails and the plains to exciting
adventures....some of the best B-Westerns ever to grace the Saturday Matinee
Screen......the Native Americans had no better ambassador than Tim McCoy, a
former Indian language translator in real life...as Tim McCoy speaks
passionately about this country's longtime abuse of its native population by
breaking treaty after treaty...just remember double thrills, chills, mystery and
suspense...hitting the bull's eye with excitement...don't miss any of the Tim
McCoy features loaded with action that will leave you wanting more of his
B-Western adventures

Under director Sam Newfield, producer Sam Katzman, original story and screenply by George H. Plympton...the cast include Tim McCoy (William 'Lightning Bill' Carson), Joan Barclay (Molly Arden), Ben Corbett (Magpie McGillicuddy), Forrest Taylor (Jim Burrows), Ted Adams (Reno, Emporium Owner), Avando Reynaldo (Rita, Reno's Cleaning Lady), Bob Terry (Mort Burrows, Jim's Son), Dave O'Brien (Ed Arden, Molly's Brother), Frank Ellis (Al, Burrows'/henchman), Reed Howes (Ace the Card Sharp), Slim Whitaker (Durkin, Association Man) . . . . . . . . . our story open with a chase as Tim McCoy rescues Joan Barclay and her runaway horse, her brother Dave O'Brien trying to take a potshot at "The Phantom" who is Tim McCoy...is there gold on the ranch of O'Brien and Barclay, and why is Forrest Taylor and his son Bob Terry trying to take it away...Ted Adams once again has seen the error of his ways and is playing it straight as owner of the Emporium...Ben Corbett as Magpie has the comedy role playing cards with McCoy as a front for the investigation...Taylor is in the framing business first Adams and then McCoy, but neither will scare easily...Slim Whitaker is a hoot trying to arrest Adams when McCoy faces Slim down and tells him to get out of town fast, watch the trail of dust as Whitaker hightails it...last reel has two "Phantoms" meeting face to face, the showdown is one not to be missed.........another great B-Western for Tim McCoy under the Puritan Pictures banner for Poverty Row, proves to be one of his most excting performances.

Special footnote, actor Tim McCoy in real life was a sharpshooter and famed for
his fast draw...was an expert on the Old West also an authority on Indian
folklore could converse in Indian sign language...McCoy was inducted into the
"Hall of Great Western Performers of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage
Museum" in 1973, also inducted into "The Cowboy Hall of Fame" in 1974.
