The downsides were minor, but it was a little difficult initially to install the batteries and I was afraid I might break the plastic. And it is fairly stable on a flat surface, but it would be really nice to have included the ability to hang it like a ceiling fan at the top of the tent. I tried to improvise this but was unable to make that work well. I ended up putting it on a cooler to raise it up a bit off the floor.
The light aspect of the fan was a non-starter for me - light was not the reason I bought the fan. But, I guess it would be handy if you needed to run the fan at night while sleeping. You could use the light provided to turn it off in the middle of the night.
My main reason to buy the fan is to increase the comfort of my 12 year old dog who suffers heart problems as a result of a faulty heart valve and has trouble with excessive heat. I am pleased with the fan. It really helps keep her cool and it was well worth the purchase price and the batteries (which I also purchased for a good price on Amazon) to me!
The positive side-- the fan is very quiet. So quiet that it may easily be turned on accidentally and not be heard.
The negative side-- it's very heavy with so many D batteries; thus it's clumsy and not easily placed in a camping situation where the ground is uneven. And it's breeze power is zilch -- even with all those batteries. It needs to be right next to you to get any benefit from it.
This product didn't meet my needs.

I'll be honest... This really is great little fan/light combo. We bought it to use in our storm shelter, and it turns the air well. The light easily lights up the shelter. Read morePublished on September 25, 2013 by Ouch
it takes 8 D batteries which makes it heavy. Not much more air volume than a small hand held. I was hoping it would a little air in a tent while camping in Texas. Read morePublished on August 10, 2013 by kingjenks
This fan/light was exactly as it was described. A little heavy, but that is needed to keep it steady when the fan is onPublished on July 24, 2013 by Mike
