I purchased this fan for camping trips in the North East where you never know if you will be hot or cold! My primary use was inside the tent (6 person). It provides a nice breeze, keeps the tent from being stuffy and moves the air well. It takes a lot of battery power - 8 D batteries - but the life of the first set of batteries operated the fan over the course of a 4 day camping trip with daytime temps in the 80's. Of course, it was not running all the time by any means.
The downsides were minor, but it was a little difficult initially to install the batteries and I was afraid I might break the plastic. And it is fairly stable on a flat surface, but it would be really nice to have included the ability to hang it like a ceiling fan at the top of the tent. I tried to improvise this but was unable to make that work well. I ended up putting it on a cooler to raise it up a bit off the floor.
The light aspect of the fan was a non-starter for me - light was not the reason I bought the fan. But, I guess it would be handy if you needed to run the fan at night while sleeping. You could use the light provided to turn it off in the middle of the night.
My main reason to buy the fan is to increase the comfort of my 12 year old dog who suffers heart problems as a result of a faulty heart valve and has trouble with excessive heat. I am pleased with the fan. It really helps keep her cool and it was well worth the purchase price and the batteries (which I also purchased for a good price on Amazon) to me!

I have two of these in my storm shelter in my garage!! I was able to find a power supply for it at Radio Shack. They keep my shelter very cool when I am down there (even with two panting dogs). I keep the batteries in it and keep power cord hooked up until I lose power and then switch to the batteries! I highly recommend these!!!

One of the few online purchases I have been thoroughly disappointed in.
The positive side-- the fan is very quiet. So quiet that it may easily be turned on accidentally and not be heard.
The negative side-- it's very heavy with so many D batteries; thus it's clumsy and not easily placed in a camping situation where the ground is uneven. And it's breeze power is zilch -- even with all those batteries. It needs to be right next to you to get any benefit from it.
This product didn't meet my needs.

Bought this to replace our wonderful old American Camper fan-light combo (which my husband mistakenly stored over the winter with the batteries still in it, to disastrous effect). New fan is quiet and moves a good bit of air. We will be using it in a pop-up camper, so its large size and the weight of the 8 (!) D-cell batteries required to power it will not pose a problem. However, the light is totally non-functional. When it arrived, it flickered a bit and then died. We bought a new light bulb (another $10 out the window) but it's not the bulb, it's the light fixture itself. My husband thinks it might have a loose wire somewhere, but this is not really a fixable sort of thing. So if you want a fan to move air in a camper or large tent without the noise of those fans that come with a pop-up camper, are NOT looking for a light fixture and do not mind paying the large-ish price, go ahead and buy it. (And remove the batteries from this, and all such equipment before you store it over the winter!) Just revised the stars down from three to one, due to the safety hazard I belatedly discovered. If you put a battery in incorrectly (which is not all that hard to do, as it's very difficult to see the little bitty pluses and minuses inside it,it will still operate--just not with much oomph, and the light will not work (hence my complaint above). But the worst is that the incorrect placement sets in motion battery leakage, which I discovered when we were setting up camp and I started wiping off what I though was water on the box--not water--battery acid. Amazon very nicely refunded the purchase price, and I threw the fan out, but I'd advise extreme caution with this product.

I bought this fan after we lost power for 5 days in 90 degree weather last June. Wow, I wish I had had it then!! It puts out a GREAT airstream, even for someone in perpetual hot flash like me. Of course, we haven't lost power since, but I've been taking it to work because some of the buildings that I go to are really hot. It's compact, you don't have to find an outlet, and it's really sturdy. Other reviewers weren't crazy about the weight from the batteries (for camping), but for my use, the weight actually makes it more stable. I thought the price was EXTREMELY reasonable for the product quality. Love it!!!

I ordered this to use in our storm shelter. We live in Oklahoma and have only been in a shelter once but right away I told myself I would buy a battery operated fan when we had our shelter put in. The fan worked great but the light keep flickering off and one. Sent it back for a refund.

I had read several other reviews about issues with the light and I had the same issue. I even replaced the light tube and that did not work, pointing to an internal problem. The fan was quiet.
