Fantastic Cook Set,

I Love this set and have used it backpacking 3 times now. The nonstick surface works well. cooked eggs in the pan several times with easy clean up using a paper towel. I've found that the small pot is great for 1-2 people, and the large is good for 3 hungry college students. Have used it to cook for 4 and that worked well, but it was a very full pot. It is pretty lightweight but is not the lightest available.
Heating is quite even (much better than a plain aluminum cook set that I once used). Durability is awesome. It will hold up under normal use and it won't get deformed in a stuffed backpack. Buy it! You should be impressed unless you are the ultra-light backpacker type (if so, then you are looking for titanium cookware for $$$).

I bought this set because of it's compact size, and the promise that the pots would be easy to clean. Both promises were kept.
When we got back from the trip, I hated to "put them away, till next time," so I rescued them from storage, and put them to work in my not so tiny RV full-time home. They work well, and the flat bottoms and dark color seem to make all the cooking heat up faster, and cook with less heat used than with my regular pots. The only problem the handles flip back and forth quite a bit as I pick them up, and it would be great to have some sort of "lock" on them,so the handles would stay together while they are on the stove.

This is a great cook set for one or two people. It was plenty big enough for my wife and me on our campouts. The pots seem strong with a good non-stick finish. I don't think the set would handle any more than two hungry campers though. I am very pleased with this set.

This is a set for the backpack gourmet who values comfort, but who has to make some sacrifices for weight. I wanted a reasonably light cookset for two that was small enough to be packable by an overnight kayaker -- which isn't the same as a backpacker since my boat can carry twice as much weight and gear as I can -- that is of decent quality, is durable and cleans up easily. I was tired of scrubbing egg residue out of my very old and tried-and-true stainless/copper bottom set.
It's hard complain. This is ideal for two to three campers, distributes heat very well thanks to the dark, anodized finish, and my stove (a Brunton Talon), a firestarter or lighter, camp soap and a nylon cleaning rag all fit inside the kit which fits inside my backpack or dry bag. There are a few tradeoffs: I have used cookware with these style handles for years. What I have learned carries to this set as well: The handles are prone to being loose and swinging without being moved into position and they are not lockable. Still, I prefer this style to those with a single detachable (and potentially "losable") handle for all pans in the set since I sometimes cook with more than one pan. The skillet is a little smaller than I'd like and it has high sides. In fact, it's definitely more of a half-pan than a skillet. I won't be frying up a trout in it without some serious knife work. Again, these are more tradeoffs than criticisms. Light, yes, but not titanium light or backpacker-on-the-Appalachian-Trail light. Cheap, yes, but not aluminum cheap or titanium expensive. Teflon cleans VERY VERY easily, but, being Teflon, it will certainly eventually scratch or wear out. Durable, yes, but only time will tell and that Teflon won't last forever. My final note is that it compares nicely to my camping friend's MSR Blacklite system. I am pleased with the price and with the set. For those who cook for large groups, or hikers who want a cookset to weigh less than an empty tuna can, look elsewhere. But if you want to do more than boil water for a freeze dried meal (like cook up some fish, potatoes and eggs) without a lot of extra weight, this is a very good choice.

I do a lot of lightweight camping and backpacking with my son, so I'm usually cooking for two when we go outdoors. We have gone through a few of those cheap aluminum mess kits to get the job done, but it was time to step it up and get a cook set that was more robust. This set has filled that void perfectly.
Not only is this set very compact and can fit in our frame packs without sacrificing space, they are lightweight and extremely strong. They look great, and I can also now fit our chow sets inside of the inner pan so everything we need to cook and eat is in one set. We now just use the cheap aluminum lids from those "other" mess kits as our plates, and they stack on the bottom of this set and fit in the same mesh bag that comes with this kit. It's so much easier to cook for 2 in one pan instead of the other two tiny ones we were using. The large pot works perfect for those 2-serving dehydrated meals, too. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this cook set. Can't beat the durability, size and look for sub-$30.

If you've shopped hard for backpackable cookware, you know it can get expensive. This set offers more than any others in its price range, from what I could find. It fills my requirements of being non-stick, light, and durable and if I want to go extra light, I can take just one pot to make coffee and heat water for dehydrated meals. When nesting the pots together, I'd suggest putting thin "camp towels" or at least paper towels or something between them to prevent possible scuffing of the non-stick surface rubbing on the handles.

Great set, good sizes and truly, nothing sticks to this...though I didn't cook any truly tricky things. Easy, easy clean. Didn't try over open fire, just Coleman stove. One drawback, the handles do not stay cool while cooking. Would recommend!!

My husband and I were preparing for a 3 night backpacking trip, interior camping via canoe. It was our first time so we researched the different items that would be necessary as well as light weight. We were pleasantly surprised wiht this mess kit that we had purchased. We used it not only on our protable stove but also right on the camp fire. It held up perfectly and it truly is non stick and durable. I would definitely recommend this for any backpacking trip.

Worked well over gas grill and stove. Lids are excellent, and clean-up is quite easy. Use wood or non-stick utensils to they don't scratch!
Certainly recommend.

Light weight, easy cleanup, easy packing, and clever design make this cook set my first choice when backpacking. At half the price of most other non-stick cookware, this set is an amazing value.
The good: - Foldaway handles and nesting allow the whole kit to pack down small, with space inside to store utensils or food when packed. - Hard anodized cookware heats up faster than iron and steel, and heats more evenly than aluminum. - Non-stick surface makes for easy cleanup The bad: - Plastic grips on the handles may keep you from burning yourself when using a camp stove, but these will burn if held over an open flame. I would have preferred a bare metal handle. |
