I bought this for camping and paid pretty good money for it at Bass Pro Shop...maybe a few more bucks than it listed for here. This weekend, I was camping, it was cold and rainy and I was cursing the coffee pot. This morning I came to Amazon looking for a replacement...and thought maybe my fellow campers would appreciate this review.
It's the lid that's the problem. With the peculator in place inside the pot, the lid fits just fine. It rests on top of the peculator. With the perculator removed, the lid falls down inside the pot! This would be annoying enough, but the tiny pin that hinges the lid in place has now slid out of place and I know that in another trip or two, the pin will fall to the forest floor and never be seen again.
Leaving me with a lidless coffee pot. Probably on a cold rainy morning.

Update: Two things--first, another reviewer informs me that the lid now fits. And second, the problem with the hinge has turned out to not be a problem. This little coffee pot get used regularly, it's solid and durable. I left off one star because *my* lid still falls down inside. But overall, this pot does the job I bought it to do. I feel kind of bad now about my initial review. :(

I ordered this product for the large amount of coffee we consume at our yearly deer camp.I had read the reviews about the lid but thought we could be careful with it. I was shocked at the cheap design of this coffee pot. The lid did not fit properly and the stem inside the pot is weak,in fact had a slight bend upon delivery.I did not have time to get another so I took a chance(BAD CHOICE).The pot boiled over because the lid did not fit and the steam tried to bend if we tried to clean it. This pot is only good for heating water and not making coffee. Stay away unless you can find a way to replace the lid and guts of this pot!!!! This is the first time I have been disapointed with an Amazon product.

I bought one of these percolators and it leaked from the spout right out of the box. I replaced it with a "14 cup" (12 actually) Texsport percolator, and that one leaked from the bottom weld the first time we used it. Water leaking through it came out greasy and gray. Beware!

Nice heavyweigh Stainlee Steel. Poor hinge on top. Raised bottom not very good on electric ranges or to keep hot.
Good sturdy product except hinge on lid.

This is the biggest non-electric percolator I could find, at 36 cups. It is heavy at 4 pounds! The additional bail handle is useful for hanging the pot on a fire as well as you need both handles to pour safely. This is really a camping coffeepot, not for home use. Do not try to use this on an electric coil stove for example. Would work great on a camp stove, backyard fire-pit, or wood stove. Stainless steel is good for the high temperature you reach on a campfire. I am not to sure about that wood handle on a camp fire though, that part may not last. I will report back if it burns up, has not yet.

It is nice looking, and it makes good coffee. I expected it to be heavier and the cover more solid.

I bought this for camping and did not open the box until we were out in the wilds.

HANDLE: NO SPOT WELD at the lower end of the handle: The handle was only attached at the top. Also, since the stainless steel stripes through the wooden handle, the wood does not keep you from burning yourself once the handle gets hot.

LID: the tolerance on the fit of the lid was so skimpy that the hinged lid fell into the opening at the top of the pot (unless the percolating basket and pole were in place to support it). Since I used the pot to heat water, this was a significant flaw.

Percolator basket: (perhaps my bad)nowadays the normal grinds of good coffee don't really work with old-fashioned percolator baskets. The grinds we like are too fine, and more suited to drip pots. So realize, you will need to buy the larger grind of coffee to use a percolator.

Good feature: the glass bulb for the percolator screws on so it doesn't fall out, and Texsport includes an extra one just in case; also, the shape of the pot is very convenient for carrying water from a lake to a camp stove (the taper keeps it from banging into your leg.

I purchased this pot as soon as Sandy passed through leaving us all in the dark for a couple of weeks. Since we are lucky enough to have natural gas, we could still use our stove top. We used the pot multiple times a day for those few weeks and both my husband and mother commented on how they forgot what coffee was supposed to taste like. Since then it has been getting daily use and the drip coffee maker sits lonely on the counter top waiting to be remembered.

The pot itself seems well made. The design flaw in the lid that another reviewer mentioned seems to have been fixed since he bought it. Even when I take the percolator out, the lid rests securely on the pot itself. The hinge pin is also wider on both sides (like nail heads) so the pin can not wiggle back and forth. The bubble on the lid is made of nice thick glass and mine came with a back up one. The pot cleans up amazingly well, it is just as shiny and new looking as the day I bought it. The simple design means no old coffee oil left behind to ruin the taste of the coffee.

I'm not thrilled with the wood handle, it not only looks a little cheap to me, but the metal rivets on the handle heat up so much that you need to use a pot holder anyway (as I learned the hard way). I have noticed some grinds in the coffee itself, but we do tend to leave the percolator in the pot or perhaps that is just the nature of percolators.

Overall I have been happy with the purchase and would recommend this pot to anyone. I have only used it over an open fire once, but I will update the review if I have any issues with the pot after some more camping trips that are coming up.
