Great Mess Kit and Misleading Lead Sticker (Read more, no lead contained),

I recieved this mess kit very fast. It came in very easy packaging to open, maybe it's Amazon's Frustration Free Packaging? However, this mess kit is awesome. You can take everything and have it in one small kit that everything fits and locks into. Made of durable stainless steel, food cooks well in it, it is not non-stick, but that is what the Pam's for... easy to clean with or without anyway. Comes with lots of stuff such as a pan, a "plate", a plastic cup, and a small "pot". Everything fits in compact and securely and is held together by the handle for the pan. You'll understand when you get the product. It will not disappoint. Also, some customers were complaining about a "Contains Lead" sticker on the bottom. I contacted Texsport customer service about this and this was their reply:
There is no lead contained in your mess kit. After the Matel Toys incident a few years ago, the EPA along with the State of California passed a law know as California Proposition 65 which states that the government has assume the right to stick these warning labels on any imported item that they choose no matter how bogus the claim may be. By very definition, stainless steel must go through a purification process to remove all unwanted elements. The warning label is an oxymoron at best. Your mess kit is completely safe. Please feel free to research California Prop 65 and Texsport and you will find that we have a clean bill of health. Thank you, Customer Service

When I got this in the mail I thought it was just too cute, a great toy for a kid but not for me. But on the road, biking and camping, it worked great. Just enough space for a can of soup, not much room for stirring though. I would prefer a different cup, otherwise it's a great set. The plate would be nice if it were flat and a little bigger, not the best cutting board even when flipped over, but it gets the job done.

A cheap alternative for more expensive kits? NO.,

I bought this set as I was preparing for two week long backpacking trips. I was sold when I read about the copper bottom. When I received the set, I was disappointed from the start.
First, the "copper bottom". It would be more accurate to say "copper plated bottom" because the copper is electroplated into place down there. This results in a copper looking bottom... but does nothing to spread the heat. The copper plating is only a few molecules thick, just like chrome or nickel plated items. So heat is spread out as well as it would be through some heavy tin foil. The "stainless steel" used in these would be better described as "stainless steel foil." Not five seconds after I applied heat to this (I was trying to make small pancakes) it popped into a little dome shape. And since it doesn't spread heat at all, my pancakes were wretched. The top and bottom didn't seat correctly, they kept falling into each other. The handle/bracket that was supposed to seat them together was no-where near where it should have been to hold them together: there was a 3/8 inch gap. I ended up taking the handle off, leaving the small pot/kettle/lid at home, seating the top and bottom pans together and putting my 2 liter pot inside them. I will use them as plates on my trip. Heavy, heavy plates. The 10 cent plastic measuring cup is the highlight of this kit.

I bought this from a local Army-Navy store to take on a canoeing/camping trip in Arkansas. I read the reviews on Amazon, but bought it at the store cause it was a couple bucks cheaper. The main reason I bought this set is because it's stainless, not aluminum. Several of my camping buddies used aluminum and had a hard time cleaning it, especially cooking over open flames. This set is also compact, and includes a cup with measurements so you know how much water to add to hot cocoa, oatmeal, etc. Folds up nice, and fits in my pack. There's enough room to put my utensils in it as well, so it's all together. Lightweight, but also durable. Some other sets have really weak handles, but this one is pretty strong. The only thing I wish would be better is that when it's put up it would fit tighter and not bang around as much. I didn't hike with it, so it wasn't that big of an issue. All in all, a really nice set.

Stainless steel mess kits seem harder to find in stores these days. This was just what I was looking for. The pieces fit together nicely and they are sturdily built.

I can remember back to the old standard scout kits, this is like a grown up version. Way better than the old ones and really worth the price. My kids, 8 and 12 love them. The kits seem sturdy enough.

I bought this item for my oldest son to use during Scout Camp this summer. It is not a cheap flimsy set but a high quality stainless set that will last man, many year.

"Frying pan" warped instantly as soon as I put it on my Colmen exponent stove at med heat. Small "pot" seems to be made to dump out water and the "cup" is barely that.
Save your money buy something else...
