Let me start off by saying save yourself whatever the cost of this book is and buy the 9th edition. It's the exact same book and nearly 100% identical context as far my nursing class can tell. As of writing this, our class is 1/2 way through and there hasn't been any problems for the people using the old edition. In fact they actually have some added benefits we don't!

The 9th edition is better because it comes with the answers to the problems at the end of the chapters and the answers in the workbook. So if you're like me, reading your material and trying to test yourself to see if you grasp these concepts, having the answers would be greatly beneficial. However upon contacting the publisher, they told me it wasn't available to students. Our instructor is a busy women and she shouldn't be burned any further to call these clowns because they won't give us the answers to the material we paid for. I get the reason behind this, but seriously I would never recommend this book based on that right there. Our teacher is going to get us the answers, because she feels its ridiculous as well.

Ehhh it's OK. I know this is still a rampant problem in all healthcare fields due to the ridiculous religious ties no one can seem to cut, HOWEVER, it is 2013, almost 2014, and I think the illusion that homosexuals seem to carry these diseases such as AIDS and hepatitis needs to stop, and this book caters to the myth that they are somehow magically connected. I also don't like that at times you need to supplement this book with a med/surg resource as this book is 950 pounds. They do seem to puff up words and repeat the same information a few times, such as saying diseases of the intestine instead of saying intestinal diseases. They also (as I said) get pretty repetitive just like I just did. I feel like if the repetition and word-bloating was cut out the book would be much smaller and have room for much more information.

The book is much easier to read than some others had been.
It's almost dumbed down, like the repetition and word-bloating are there simply to help people with cognitive issues to read the book.

I don't look forward to the next edition, however, as apparently one of the nurses who will be in on writing it is someone associated with my school... so maybe this version isn't so bad...

To say that I don't like this book at all is an understatement. The book is very basic, poorly written, leaves out a lot of information, and at times contradicts itself. Unfortunately, it is a required textbook for our class, so I still have to read it because our tests are based on it. I am very dissatisfied and will be looking for another textbook to maintain my sanity. Many times I end up looking up the information somewhere else anyway because this textbook doesn't do a good job explaining the material. Over time, I have read many excellent textbooks for my undergrad degree and I know what a good textbook is like. This one certainly isn't.

This book is overly, unnecessarily wordy. GET TO THE POINT. If you could EDIT the text, the 1,875 page textbook could likely be shortened by at least 25%. Oh, but then maybe you couldn't charge as much. It is an exercise in frustration reading this. Additionally, the workbook for this book-- in the 10th edition-- does NOT have answers. Try studying that way and see how it works out for you.

Don't waste your money on that expensive addition to this monster of a book.

I hate the kindle version. There is no table of contents on the menu bar, which makes navigating extremely troublesome. Also table of contents should be more detailed.

This textbook is huge and contains enormous amounts of valuable information. The depth, illustrations and graphics are excellent. Even if this is not the assigned textbook for your classroom, I advise student PNs to invest in this excellent textbook!

it is a detailed book that covers a lot of things. It is also heavy so make sure you eat your Wheaties before tackling it.

I was enrolled in the ADN program but it did not work for me at the school I was currently at. Since nursing is something I wanna do, I decided to try the LPN route to becoming a RN. I hadn't started the program yet, but after looking thru the book and looking at the content, the book is a simpler version of all the knows! it is a big book but it covers all the content in one. I can't wait to use this book. I've already made plans to buy the comprehensive book for LPN by the same company!
