Textbook of Clinical Neuropsychiatry is a well-organised and authoritative guide to neuropsychiatric practice which will provide practitioners with the information needed to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients. The comprehensive reference is divided into three major sections: Part I addresses the methodology and technique of diagnostic assessment; Part II presents a detailed account of the signs, symptoms and syndromes seen in neuropsychiatric practice and PartIII provides encyclopedic coverage of specific disorders capable of causing neuropsychiatric symptomatology.

Review

"The text is dense with references, and is not only very comprehensive, but also seems very up-to-date. It is easy to find one's way around the text, which really serves not only as a textbook of neuropsychiatry, but also an excellent reference book...its concise style and user-friendly layout can be highly recommended."Acta Psychiatrica Scandanavica

"In summary, this is an impressive single-author publication...I would recommend this text for postgraduate students of psychiatry, neurology and clinical neuropsychology...the Textbook of Clinical Neuropsychiatry is likely to become essential reading and an invaluable source of reference for neuropsychiatrists."Brain

"Overall Dr. Moore is to be congratulated on producing a useful textbook...[He] has achieved his aim of offering this book as a ready reference for established practitioners. It will be of interest to both neurologists and psychiatrists"Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry

"a valuable coverage of different neuropsychiatric disorders. The style is elegant and the text is clearly written. Over 4000 references are included. Acta Neurologica Scandinavica

5.0 out of 5 stars High Praise for Textbook of Clinical Neuropsychiatry, June 23, 2004

This review is from: Textbook of Clinical Neuropsychiatry (Hodder Arnold Publication) (Hardcover)
This is a comprehensive single-authored text that is well-written and provides an incredible depth and breadth of information, with over 4000 references included. Apparently, others have the same opinion! (see reviews as posted on the publisher's site.)

"American Journal of Psychiatry"
01/04/2003
This is a very good book that compares favorably with ... Organic Psychiatry by W.A. Lishman ... It is eminently readable, well organized, and thorough... The descriptions of clinical features are simply brilliant. In very clear and concise terms, Moore brings neuropsychiatry alive.

"Brain"
...this is an impressive single-author publication...I would recommend this text for postgraduate students of psychiatry, neurology and clinical neuropsychology. In addition to a handful of other texts, most notably Lishman, the Textbook of Clinical Neuropsychiatry is likely to become essential reading and an invaluable source of reference for neuropsychiatrists.

"Canadian Journal of Psychiatry"
01/12/2002
This book is comprehensive and up to date ... (and) accomplishes its objective, especially in providing a reliable text dealing with common and rare neuropsychiatric conditions and in giving an up-to-date etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment for each condition.

Michael Trimble, "Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica"
The text is dense with references, and is not only very comprehensive, but also seems very up-to-date. It is easy to find one's way around the text, which really serves not only as a textbook of neuropsychiatry, but also an excellent reference book...its concise style and user-friendly layout can be highly recommended.

"Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry"
Overall Dr. Moore is to be congratulated on producing a useful textbook. Two neuropsychiatric colleagues gave this book the thumbs up because Dr. Moore has achieved his aim of offering this book as a ready reference for established practitioners. It will be of interest to both neurologists and psychiatrists.

"Acta Neurologica Scandinavica"
...a valuable coverage of different neuropsychiatric disorders. The style is elegant and the text is clearly written. Over 4000 references are included.

Judges at the 2002 BMA Medical Book Competition Awards
01/11/2002 Commended Book (3rd Place), Mental Health Division.
British Medicine suffers due to the rigid demarcation between neurology and psychiatry. This North American text bridges the neurology-psychiatry gulf very well. It covers comprehensively the various neuropsychiatric syndromes, and gives a full description of the neuropsychiatric manifestations of neurological diseases...an excellent single volume text.

"Southern England Psychological Services"
The book is easy to read and provides a volume of information and yet concentrates on specific areas sufficiently to have practitioners be able to develop both diagnostic and therapeutic intervention techniques.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!, March 25, 2009

In this single-authored text, Moore covers all of clinical neuropsychiatry. After a bit of introductory work (interviewing, physical exam, EEGs, imaging), and sections on symptoms and syndromes, he proceeds in a logical order through each neuropsychiatric condition. In entries typically one to eight pages long (detailed enough to be useful, short enough to be readable), he defines the clinical features, course, etiology, differential diagnosis, and treatment of each disorder. Moore has a very accessible and pleasant prose style, so -- assuming you have any interest in this area at all -- you'll find yourself sneaking glimpses of this wonderful text -- hey, cool!, it's Alien Hand Syndrome. Did you know that the alien hand is almost always the left one? (This goes to prove that you shouldn't try to learn clinical neuropsychiatry by watching "Dr. Strangelove".)

This is definitely a book for clinicians; there is no basic neuroscience here. This book is very well written and edited; I could find almost no typos. The reference sections are astonishingly long and up-to-date. It does not seem physically possible for a single human to have written such a comprehensive text, but I've got the proof in my hands.

Minor quibbles: The table of contents could use some horizontal rules so that you can align the page numbers with the section names. Also, the price is off-putting for many who would most benefit from this book: some psychiatry residents, all neuropsychiatry/neurobehavior/geriatric psych/psychosomatic medicine/C&L fellows. I'm no economist, but I'd think they'd sell enough of a paperback version of this book at $50 to make a profit. Still, I will buy anything that Moore writes at just about any price. His books are that good.
