During the past eight years following initial gene therapy experiments, more than 200 clinical protocols have been submitted worldwide and more than 2000 patients have been treated. Although a lot remains to be accomplished before gene therapy becomes a standard medical practice, enough information has accumulated to justify a textbook on the subject. This book gives a good presentation of this emerging and highly promising field of medicine. However, information flow stops when the author refers to review papers, that mostly comprise the reference section of this book. Unfortunately though, some references are missing. Moreover, I believe that the part dealing with spinal cord injury and nerve regeneration in general, deserves greater attention.
