5.0 out of 5 stars Physiology comes to life!
If you usually don't read textbooks, but are curious to know more than what is presented in physiology lecture, this book is for you. Textbook of Physiology is so well written that in addition to helping in physiology, it proved to be an invaluable resource in the seemingly unrelated fields of biochemistry and immunology. 3.0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPECCABLE....BUT....
This book would have been impeccable only if the authors/editors were more patient and careful. It has a number of misspelt words. There are few figurative illustrations when compared to similar more-than-one-thousand paged texts; and some of them were poorly done. But these aside, I find the contents, particularly the areas that dealt with Physiochemistry, very...

Textbook of Physiology is so well written that in addition to helping in physiology, it proved to be an invaluable resource in the seemingly unrelated fields of biochemistry and immunology. Although there is no required reading in the pursuit of medicine, if there were such a list, this book would be at the top.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable for learning physiology, February 22, 2000
By
This review is from: Textbook of Medical Physiology (Hardcover)
After discovering Guyton my physiology grades went up to A's! This book is easy to understand yet gives enough information to allow an in depth grasp on the subjects covered. Best for those of us who have not had physiology before - may not be enough for those who have already had a basic physiology class. I will use this book as a reference throughout my career - one of the few texts you should actually cart around with you after graduation.

4.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars if Guyton would just illustrate better...., May 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Textbook of Medical Physiology (Hardcover)
I am a Nurse Anesthesia Student who took a lot of physiology as an undergraduate psychology/biology major. Guyton does a marvelous job of explaining human physiology, once you become acustom to his prose. The best possible combination is Guyton's detailed and unterstandable explainations with Elaine Marieb's diagrams from "Human Anatomy and Physiology". Marieb's book is aimed at the undergraduate and is the A+P book I had in my RN program, so the information is, naturally, not as detailed but the diagrams are great. I know it would make an even more expensive book, but bigger diagrams that use more than just red and black for colors would greatly enhance Guyton's already excellent work.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST Physiology book, July 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Textbook of Medical Physiology (Hardcover)
If you are an undergraduate preclinical medical student you must look at Guyton. The text makes this often tricky subject easy to grasp. If I had one complaint it is the diagrams - more color please!! But overall, no other text covers the subject so completely with such stylish explanations.

5.0 out of 5 stars And I thought Medical books were a pain for my brain, January 10, 2000
This review is from: Textbook of Medical Physiology (Hardcover)
Guyton and Hall's Medical Textbook of Physiology is the most exquisite piece of medical literature I have read ever ! Not only it introduces you in an appropiate scientific yet simple way to the human machine, but carries you all along through it like if you were a child learning ABC. Also, it introduces you to the graphic interpretations ( because although there aren't lots of them, he explains every detail of the graphic ), the physiologic experiences and solidifies your knowledge with pathophysiological approaches of common diseases so you can exercise through the book what you have learned. CONCLUSION: Thanks to GUYTON and HALL's book I'm doing so well in my physiology semester.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for a first year medical student, April 23, 2000

Guyton and Hall's Textbook of Medical Physiology is easily one of the best texts on the subject available. Clearly written, concise, and interesting, this book is highly recommended for first year medical students. It touches on most topics students will be required to be familiar with by their major clinical year. The chapters on cardiodynamics and renal physiology are particularly good.

I am not a professional in medics. But I am a curious traveller. I would like to bestow my special thanks upon one of the best gifts of the heavenly wit-Mr Guyton and Mr Hall. I will carry it by myself through the rest of my life, however heavy it is... I strongly recommend you to read it today...

I think, it is really good and interesting book, and all medical students must have that great book. I use it very much not only in physiology, but also in some other medical branches. I think that the newest edition is the best, if we compare it with older editions of same book.
