Not as excited about this book as I thought I'd be. Haven't found a better one though. There are lots of pictures - both normal and abnormal.

This is a great book for veterinary radiology if you want to know a lot about it. This is by no means an introductory level book. It has small print and a LOT of information. If you are looking to become very astute at radiography this book will help take you there. The pictures are good for the most part, although some are zoomed in so far you can't tell what the original radiograph was. I would recommend this book if you are looking for a good, in depth guide to radiology.

Big name, Big price and WORTHLESS!!!,
This review is from: Textbook of Veterinary Diagnostic Radiology, 5e (Hardcover)
I think because there are so few veterinary radiology books that this book has gotten good reviews that it did not deserve. The pictures are worthless and frustrating. They describe what you should be seeing, but do not always have arrows to show you the exact area they are talking about. For a beginner and even some advanced, the pictures leave a lot to be desired. Additionally, the pictures are small. The book is fairly long-winded and many times hard to follow. Also, I was at NC State with Thrall and was not impressed. If you are a student, I recommend just searching online for academic websites with images and descriptions. I found this to be much better than this book. If you are someone that must have a hard copy, I would look elsewhere. If you do buy this book, don't hi-light it and keep your receipt. I am still looking for a good veterinary radiology book so if you find one, please advise!

Radiology,

Useful for new graduates and those who have got rusty. A comprehensive and detailed textbook to aid in the interpretation of radiographs, ultrasonographic images and more. The pictures of normal radiographic anatomy are comprehensive but a bit small to pick up all features. Also, does not account for differences in exposure and positioning. Small animal joints are all covered in one chapter, where expanding this might have been helpful.

This book has a lot of great pictures to help you understand what you're looking at in radiographs for animals.

I have found Thrall to be an excellent resource text to get a good grounding in radiography and radiology. The text is written in a very reader-friendly style, covering the main points without being verbose. The many radiographic examples often cover more than one instance of a particular condition, giving the reader different perspectives on conditions. My only desire would be to have more of the radiographs labeled with the radiological points referred to in the text. The updated sections on Ultrasonography and MRI give a student (and current practitioner new to these technologies) a good understanding of them.

This book is major in understanding and logically approaching X-rays.Of course it must be combined with other sources- no book can be taken by itself only.
very good indeed! |
