4.0 out of 5 stars Handbook of North American Woods, April 29, 2000

This review is from: Textbook of Wood Technology: Structure, Identification, Properties, and Uses of the Commercial Woods of the United States and Canada (McGraw-Hill series in forest resources) (v. 1) (Hardcover)
This may be regarded as the official handbook of North American Woods. For those interested in identifying USA-grown wood this book overlaps somewhat with Hoadley's 'Identifying Wood'. The latter is more readable with illustrations that are unorthodox but briliant.

The illustrations in the 'Textbook' are quite traditional, as is the text. Of course this 'Textbook' is not primarily focused on wood identification: it is a reference work covering many aspects of North American woods. It is packed with facts: a good solid reference.
