Editorial Reviews

American Craft Magazine, June/July 1999
"Za-artu is a master cinematographer, as is made evident by free-flowing slow-motion shots and carefully executed close-ups...Za-artu continues to display...a visual seductiveness that threatens to make fiber fetishists of us all."

American Craft Magazine, September 1996
"I could not help but admire the video's technical excellence... The inventiveness, skill and playfulness of these artists is everywhere evident, as when Tanaka is shown rubbing a piece of cloth on a great slab of rock to extract a kind of engraving, Tomita makes a small drawing and then brings it to life on the loom, or Shindo hangs his banners and lets them wave in the wind...truly magical and live up to even the most exhalted ideas one might have about Japanese culture."

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple yet beautiful, January 14, 2009
I watched this movie three years ago when I was just a beginning fibers artist, and it has made a permanent impression on me and my art. The cinematography shows off the artists and their work beautifully, and their philosophies on art and nature are truly inspirational. If you have a love for simple, contemporary art that utilizes thread, weaving, indigo, and other organic materials, this will be a great source of inspiration for you!
