The mattress was as described. It came rolled and vaccum sealed in a fairly small carton, considering the size of the mattreses. The carton comes with roller wheels and a handle, which makes it extremely easy to lug around. I had absolutely no problem wheeling it myself. It arrived on time. Its slightly less thick than advertised. Its nice and soft as a pillow top should be. Excellent deal for the price. I have absolutely no complaints.

Last night was the first night I slept soundly, comfortably, in years.

I've had to sleep on a futon mattress on uncomfortable boxsprings for more years than I care to admit. Mattresses in my area are costly and the delivery charges outrageous. I had no idea Amazon had them until I did an oddball search. That's how I came across the Textrade Mattress in a Box.

If there had not been positive revues of this product, I never would have tried it. I mean, seriously, a mattress in a box? And one that was vacuum-sealed at that. Sure doesn't sound like it would work - or be comfortable even if it did inflate properly.

But the price - and reviews - made it a tempting deal and I decided to try it. It was a plus that it was delivered to my door. (Unfortunately FedEx ripped the packaging. More on that later.) The mattress is literally in a box, rolled up. The box has wheels and a handle to make it easy to transport for anyone - including those who live in older homes or apartments with narrow staircases. (The wheels are awesome and you could remove them from the box to reuse for another project, for you DIYers out there.)

It was actually fun to watch the whoosh of air fill the mattress - and watch it grow. The instructions say to put it flat on the floor and leave for 4-6 hours so it fills to capacity. I wasn't able to do that (and after 3 hours I had to put a cover on because my dog decided she was tired of sleeping on the floor), and the mattress is flanked by two walls. One side is slightly sloped (not uncomfortable), but I know if I let more air in, it will be OK. Be sure to allow it to fill up properly and put it in a room with a door so no one (i.e. pets) can bother it.)

I purchased this with the Pragma Bed® Mattress Platform - Queen. No Box Spring needed. Ideal for memory foam, latex, and air mattresses. and the Luna Premium Hypoallergenic Waterproof Mattress Protector - Queen Size - Made In The USA. After setting up the box springs - which was incredibly easy - I put the box on top of the springs for added support. (Also great for PPL who sleep on futons.) We unrolled the mattress on top and snipped away the plastic.

Shipping: This is a FedEx-delivered product. Typically, my purchases come via UPS. The driver complained that it was heavy and I actually thought I would have to get on the truck to take it out. She had me sign, but didn't tell me the packaging was ripped. I didn't discover how badly until she was already leaving. (I apparently wasn't quick enough on my feet that day.)

One of the great things about this is that the box has wheels and a handle to make it easy to move around. It would have been a cinch to get into the house - if the entire lid had not been ripped off. It was hanging by a small piece of tape, which prompting broke off as I grabbed the handle. The driver made certain the lid looked like it was on as she pushed it out of the truck. I started really inspecting the packaging as the driver left and took photographs, which I sent to Amazon. I'm not sure how it is in your area, but I have had many items delivered broken or in bad packaging by FedEx. Never UPS.

So, the mattress rocks. The shipping did not. Fortunately, there was nothing wrong with the mattress when I inspected it. It is double-wrapped for added protection and the thick plastic covering it makes it pretty difficult to damage. However, without the lid - where the handle is - the box was difficult to manage.

My husband & I decided on this bed after much research & deliberation. We moved 1600 miles, decided not to bring any furniture with us & we didn't have a large budget to work with. The mattress came within a couple days of placing our order in a box that was very easy to roll into the bedroom & open up. There is a lot of packaging, but once you get through all of it, the mattress pops open & quickly forms to its normal shape & size. It has a mild odor at first, but aired out within 12 hours or so. The mattress is the most comfortable one either of us has ever slept on & within the first week we were both better rested & my husbands chronic back pain is beginning to subside. No, I am sure that it is not the same as sleeping on a $1000+ mattress, however, for the price it is impossible to complain about the quality. Definitely would recommend if this is the budget range you are working with.

I ordered this mattress because of all the great reviews it had. It was meant to be used as a temporary bed while I wait for construction to end. Yes, it was pretty cool watching it go from a box to a full fledged mattress, but as excited as I was to get it, it was a huge disappointment. My initial instincts said that if they could fold this mattress into a box, its springs could not be very strong. I should have listened to my own instincts. The mattress is so soft, it's like sleeping on a bed of jello. There is no support what-so-ever. I tend to enjoy soft mattresses, but this one sinks as you sleep on it, so I wake up constantly throughout the night with back pains or with my head much lower than the rest of my body. It really is too bad, and once it's out of that box, there is no way to return it.
Had read a few reviews with the same complaint. Should have listened to them.

I love this bed after letting it air up, my husband and I laid down on it and didin't want to get up after that. I slept all day because I was just so comforable I didn't want to get up. We dont use a box spring with it cause it doesn't need one. I like it. Although, It is heavier than crap I had to have my husband carry it up stairs and he even had problems with it and he's a marine.

PLEASE dont buy this mattress. This thing sags in the middle and doesnt support your body like some of the few reviewers have pointed out. I got carried away by the good reviews, and didnt give much importance to the bad reviews, and i am only posting this comment so that others wont repeat the same mistake. mattress is something you use for one third of your whole day. there is nothing else you would use as much. i actually even stay in my bed throughout the time i am at home!! so when it sags in the middle and makes me so uncomfortable in my back, its not worth at all. there is no way to return this product either. It has been such a bad proposition for me. I cant invest in another mattress after I already paid 300 bucks on this one without using it for a few years- that would really make me feel guilty. so now i am stuck with this stupid thing.

please dont buy it.

a year and a half ago I purchased a 550 dollar simmons mattress...i thought i loved it when i was there..and when i got home it wasnt to bad...for the first couple of days but it just was not comfortable...i got a pillow topper...then a temperpedic topper...am using both at once but still cant find comfort...I AM PICKY!!! my girlfriend was in the market 3 months ago for a bed and was considering spending a large sum of money..me upset over my experience of being stuck with an overpriced haystack... I began checkin around amazon and stumbled on this mattress...only one I could really find for under 400 with a decent amount of reviews... i read some of the reviews and being an avid amazon customer trusted my fellow shoppers...I suggested to her to give it a shot and if she didnt like it she could have my "simmons" bed...she thinks it ok...we purchased it...unpacking was a little tough but what do you expect...some of these other people are nuts for complaining about the packaging.. they need a life...we set it all up..and chilled there for the night...I fell asleep at 9 oclock...and i wasnt trying..i usually manage to fall asleep by midnight..i was astonished...I had to see if it was a fluke so i stayed over the next night...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...amazing!!!! she loves it so much..i do too...my brother purchased one after her experience and loves it also..I bit the bullet and sold my bed to some sucker for 200 bucks so i could muster up the 282 for the mattress and boy am i the happiest man ever. this is not a firm bed!! but it has support.. my girlfriend brother and I all weigh under 160 lbs so keep that in consideration. I highly suggest this economical and comfy choice for anyone...I DONT ALWAYS SLEEP ON A MATRESS...BUT WHEN I DO..I SLEEP ON A BED IN A BOX!!!!...SLEEEP WELL MY FRIENDS!!!(DOS EQUOS PARODY IF ANY ONE GETS IT)

If you don't like a really soft mattress, don't buy this one. It seemed too good to be true, and it was. It is nice looking and I appreciated the idea of being able to transport it in a box, rather than strap a mattress to the top of my car to transport it to my cabin in the mountains, but once it opened up it was really soft in the middle. When two people sleep on it they slide down towards the center.

If you are looking for something firmer, look elsewhere. The bed deflated as promised but it didn't deflate to the inches it advertised, partly because it came in a box! The coils do not support the body and gave me back aches. This bed is good for guest rooms - not good to sleep on every night.

I don't recommend buying this item. The mattress is too soft, I had pain all over my body after I slept on it for one night.
