This book offers far more than just another collecion of crochet stitches. It starts with an outstanding
section on basic to intermediate crochet techniques, well illustarted with good diagrams Then comes a collection of fun to make Irish crochet type designs with roses and leaves, followed by a good section on motifs worked in the round. A nice selection of textured stitches, many with variations, is given with both written and symbol instructions. Color blending is covered, a nice surprise, as well as a good coverage of surface crochet and free style. The publisher should have used a better title to describe the varied
contents of this book. Symbol diagrams are well done, color close-ups of stitches show lots of detail. There's a lot of bang for the buck in this volume, which has a hidden spiral binding, making it easy to use.

This is a fine selection of stitches many of which vary from the usual stitch dictionaries. Great for people thinking of doing freeform. Excellent for crocheters just wanting a wider vocabulary for their work. I bought it on a whim, and couldn't have been more pleased.

As a freeform crocheter I buy as many different stitch guides as I can find and this is now one of my all time favorites. I prefer to work from symbols and the graphs in this book are very clear and easy to use. I also enjoy the different variations on the same stitch. I used the basket-weave for a shawl collar and it's beautiful. The binding is great for keeping the book on the page you're following without having to bend the book in half which I appreciate too. This is definitely a stitch guide to add to your crochet library to expand your vocabulary!!

The first thing that made me like this book was that it is spiral bound. Any crocheter out there knows what a boon that is. This is a small book, easy to slip into your workbag and carry around.

There are good basic instructions, well written out and illustrated, and each of the different stitches is given with written instructions and diagrams, making it a breeze to learn how to interpret diagrams, which to me were a bit daunting when I first came across a pattern set out that way. This book even has a flap at the back giving stitch, abbreviation and symbol, that can be left open while working for instant reference.

There is a good selection of pattern stitches for experimenting with. Start off making a dishcloth to see how any particular stitch works and then just see where the fancy takes you!

This is an incredible book, a great help to those of us who do not have access to a lot of textured or specialty yarns. Helen Jordan has just made my crochet designing and freeform work MUCH easier. The directions are clear, and the ideas are refreshing, useful, and beautiful. The lay flat format is perfect, it makes it so much more convenient to use the book. Just paging through it inspires me. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to branch out on her own, and to experiment with texture in crochet.

This book surpasses what I was expecting. Textured stitches I have never seen before. The instructions and charts are done great. I can see the texture of the stitches in the pictures. Some books don't show the texture very well. I also like the spiral book that makes it easier to work from.
I would highly recommend this book.

This stitch book definitely goes beyond the usual crochet stitch book. The spiral binding is great for ease of use lying flat. Photos of the stitch could be larger but everything is written out and charted and the stitches used are listed right next to the pattern plus there's a foldout at the back with the abbreviations and symbols. While the author is English, the terms are all American. Also this looks to be the first in a series.
