Book Description

January 3, 2012
Beloved knitwear designer Connie Chang Chinchio presents for the first time a complete collection of twenty brand-new designs.

Knitters know Connie Chang Chinchio’s wildly popular patterns from Knitscene and Interweave Knits and will be clamoring for this book of original projects. Textured Stitches brings her trademark combination of simple knitting with lovely patterned stitches to flattering, wearable garments and accessories. The patterns are fun to knit, mixing quick and easy stockinette stitch with more involved stitch patterns like lattice, knitted pleats, cables, twisted stitches, and ribbing. The textured stitches help create a tailored fit, while classic stockinette lends drape and polished finish. Knitters will also learn how textured stitches affect gauge, how yarn choices influence the look of patterned stitches, shaping, and special cast-on and bind-off techniques.

The result is a wardrobe full of stylish and smart sweaters, tanks, tees, and accessories that you’ll love to make and wear.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Connie Chang Chinchio's designs always stand out in any magazine. They are the designs that allow your eye and mind to take a bit of rest. They are usually swaths of stockinette punctuated by texture for visual interest and shaping. They are the sweaters that I think would look flattering on a variety of shapes and size and would be interesting to knit but not taxing. This is a whole book of that kind of knitting goodness. 11 of the 19 designs in this book are garments which is becoming a rarity in the latest accessory heavy knitting books. The styles are everyday wearable and subtly shaped for excellent fit. They are knit using mostly DK or light worsted yarns giving wonderful drape and a lightness and flow to the details and sweaters. Standouts for me are the Professoressa Cardigan, Anna Maria Cardigan and the Abero Cowl Jacket." - Knitty.com

5.0 out of 5 stars My All Time Favorite Book of Knitting Patterns January 2, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have been knitting for over 25 years and I have hundreds of knitting books and patterns. I buy and read all of them. And I knit ALOT, almost constantly. Most of the time, I knit up one or two patterns from a new book. Sometimes, I just use the information and don't knit anything. This is the first time I want to make every single item in the book!!!

The garments are classic, but they all have a cool detail to keep them from being plain. If you are a fast knitter, you could make yourself a new wardrobe. If you are a slow knitter, you could make one sweater per year and use this as your only pattern book. It's that good.

The patterns are well written and easy to understand. After quickly reading each pattern, I would say that Connie really knows what she's doing. New knitters need not be afraid of this book. It's wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Textured Knits to Make Knitters Smile with Joy December 22, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Textured Stitches by Connie Chang Chinchio is one of those knitting books that I'm so glad I bought. It is filled with remarkably beautiful patterns, many I can even use in Florida. The warmer patterns I can knit for friends in Alaska and mail them off as gifts. I love the variety and diversity in this book.

The Professoressa Cardigan is knit in a boysenberry colorway in a light Alpaca. It has texture down the front of the cardigan and is knit with sportweight yarn.

The Lustro Cardigan has texture around the top part of the sweater and is cabled. It is knit in a soft blue colorway utilizing silk and wool yarn.

The MIele Hat and Mittens are textured and ribbed throughout. Knit in a fingering weight yarn, it, too, is in a soft blue.

The Gems Hoodie is knit in a rich blue with texture towards the top of the sweater. Sportweight yarn is called for.

The Anna Maria Cardigan is one of my favorites in the book. Knit in a rich red, it is textured all down the front around the buttonholes and plackets and around the neck. It utilizes merino and cashmere yarn, a delight against the skin.

The Tulip Henley is a lovely pullover in a soft red using a cotton and linen yarn with buttons on the top and texture around the button portion of the sweater.

The Intagliata Henley is the sweater on the cover and it is spectacular with texture towards the top of the sweater and a lovely collar. It is knit in a golden hue with super fine sock yarn.

There are many, many patterns I want to knit from this book. As always, I ask myself three questions about this knitting book:

Will I knit the Patterns?

Are the patterns easy to read?

Will the book be a good resource.

The answer to all three questions is a resounding 'yes'. Additionally, the sizing goes from petite to very large, covering a wide array of sizing for almost all women. This is a book well worth investing in. Thank you Ms. Chinchio and Interweave Press.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait! Instant Classic! December 23, 2011
By knitbee

It is rare to find a book where you would like to knit every single design. This is it. Beautiful, graceful and inventive designs in the form of caridgans, henley style pullovers, and accessories. Most are in a dk to sport gauge. I really appreciate all the cardigan designs--I counted six.
I also appreciate the lace and/or cable details in each design, so many I haven't seen before. Thank you Connie! This is one of my favorite books of the year! Looking forward to seeing all the creations at fiber festivals and knitting expos. I look forward to making my own, too. This book is a must own! I would give it ten stars if I could! Love, love, love!!!
