Sometimes known simply as the Textus Receptus, this is a reprint of the Greek New Testament published by Stephens in 1550. As the introduction states "That a good translation of the New Testament does not fully satisfy many, is not surprising; for in the first place, there are several modern translations of the New Testament, all supposed to be improvements on the Authorized Version, and all purporting to be true and more or less literal translations: yet these when compared together are found TO DIFFER MATERIALLY; some in the translation itself, and some because of a different Greek text having been used." This edition includes includes the various readings of Griesbach, Lachmann, Tregelles, Tischendorf, Alford and Wordsworth. The Main text of this New Testament is the Koine Greek of Stephens. However, this edition also features an Interlinear Literal Translation immediately under the Greek as well as the side by side verses of the King James Version of 1611 on each page. This edition was published by Bagster in 1896. One of the Greek Texts used extensively during the reformation, by Calvin & others, this is one of the Greek Texts which remains as it was before Westcott & Hort made their revision.

Stephens against the ecclesiastical authorities of his day and risking his life, wanted to put the sacred scriptures in the hands of the people. The first step towards this was a reliable greek edition which Bible scholars (such as Luther & others) could draw on. Stephens published the Textus Receptus in 1550 in the earliest days of the Reformation.
